To view service please press on this tab. Mark Monroe Wilbur, 74, of Reston, Virginia passed away suddenly at his residence on Friday, October 16, 2020. Mark was born on May 5, 1946 in Cheverly, Maryland, the beloved son of Glenmore and June (Carlson) Wilbur. June Wilbur saw to it that Mark grew up among Swedish tradition, and he spent many summers in the Pacific Northwest visiting his cousins and all of the extended family that his mother lovingly referred to as “her clan.” Together they enjoyed time together in Seattle and visiting Lake Washington, Puget Sound and the surrounding mountains. His outgoing personality and friendliness was always matched by an energy that inspired those who were with him to find fun in whatever they were doing. After graduating from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Mark studied at the University of Maryland and graduated cum laude in Electrical Engineering in 1968. This led to a career spanning over three decades in the aerospace industry which included work on numerous highly sensitive military and intelligence community programs. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 2012 after serving as a senior systems engineering manager on his proudest project, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Mark's mission late in his career was to ensure that the F-35 delivered the best possible air support to the “guy on the ground”, and he prided himself in matching cutting edge technology to the needs of all of the military services. He enjoyed his work and took great pride in it as his contribution to the defense of our nation. Mark was an engaging man with an easy smile who was genuinely interested in the people around him. Almost every trip out of the house led to a new acquaintance. To Mark, everyone he met had a story, and he always made time to hear it, whether he was talking to a candidate on the campaign trail or a delivery driver at the door. He loved spending time on the golf course in Maui, cruising across the Atlantic and exploring London, and relaxing at home with his children and grandchildren. The people who Mark loved to be around the most were his family, and he was forever determined to make sure his loved ones enjoyed life. He sought every opportunity to show his daughter Katie the world, and he was immensely proud of her academic and professional achievements. After moving to Northern Virginia recently to be near his daughter Erin and her family, Mark spent many cherished hours with his grandsons, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and talking in depth about shared interests. At the dinner table, he would often be deep in conversation with Luke about airplane designs or sharing investment advice with Rex. He challenged his children and grandchildren to set professional goals and be active politically, doing their part to contribute to the greater good. The University of Maryland in College Park always held a special place in Mark’s heart, as it was his boyhood home where his mother spent her entire professional career as a professor, having been honored with Emeritus status in 1978. Mark, his sister Laura, and his brother-in-law Lucian shared that special Terrapin connection, which was especially recognizable every spring as NCAA March Madness approached. In 2018, Mark was honored as a Golden Terp Engineer at his 50th reunion at the A. James Clark School of Engineering. Mr. Wilbur is survived by his daughters, Katie Wilbur of Brookline, MA, Erin Wirtanen (Chris) of Great Falls, VA and Kelly Sheffer (Peter) of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren Luke Wirtanen, Rex Wirtanen, Ry Sheffer and Blaze Sheffer; his sister, Laura (Lucian) Heflin, Sewickley, PA as well as niece Jennifer and nephews Jeffrey, James, and John, and their families; and his partner, Ann (Saltzman) Wilbur. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Wilbur’s memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, October 26, 2020 at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, VA. The service will be streamed live for those who want to watch from afar.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
