Dear Marcie, It is with great sadness that I send condolences on the loss of your beloved mother and my dear friend. Mary and I met at the Sheehan stuttering therapy group many years ago and so our bond in friendship started out with this shared issue; I see it fitting to honor her memory this way. We shared adventures and confidences over the years. I was so happy to have been able to meet you, her daughter, as a toddler and then again as a lovely young woman, wife and mother. Mary E. Weadon, 71, a former teacher and long-time resident of Herndon, Virginia, took her last journey from this world on December 11, 2020. Mary was a special education teacher for more than 30 years, a field she was drawn to because of her experiences growing up as a person who stutters. Mary was born in Whittier, California, to Madge (Roberts) and Claude Weadon and moved to the Washington, D.C. area in the 1970s, where she built a life for her and her daughter as a single mom on a teacher’s salary. In addition to her job as a teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools, she was an advocate for progressive causes and the stuttering community. Mary was a delegate for George McGovern at the 1972 Democratic National Convention, which paved the way for a lifetime of advocacy in local, State, and Federal campaigns. One of her favorite advocacy tactics was to send enormous poster-size cards with hundreds of individual stamps to elected officials. It was because of Mary’s advocacy and careful research that Fairfax County named a newly-built Herndon, VA elementary school after an historic African American educator from the area. In 2009, Lutie Lewis Coates Elementary opened its doors and serves hundreds of students in Herndon. Mary was also deeply involved in raising awareness about stuttering and was one of the founding members of a local stuttering therapy and support group. It was with this group that she explored creative ideas about ways to increase awareness of stuttering, such as creating bulletin boards at the local library and hosting beach trips for the group where they would focus on stuttering openly and building a supportive community. She also loved dancing, giving too-big gifts, and learning about others and their passions. In the last years of her life, she grew fond of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and even bought a cabin in the city limits where she planned to spend weekends. She loved attending the Thursday evening band performances downtown and meeting fellow neighbors and visitors. She is survived by her daughter, Marcie (Weadon-Moreno) Foster, and her grandchildren, Colin and Alexandra. She was extremely proud of her daughter’s career in public service and the family that Marcie created with her husband, Stephen Foster. But she was even more proud of her grandchildren and cherished being a part of their everyday life. No flowers, please. Memorial gifts may be sent to The Stuttering Foundation of America in Memory of: Mary Weadon for The Mary Weadon Fund for Public Awareness. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
