To the Family of John Farbry, Jr.
May God's blessing and comfort be with all of you in your loss of John. Thank you for putting the information in last Sunday's St. Louis Post-Dispatch. I was a long time resident of Valley Park and attended Valley Park Schools with John. His family and mine were members at Zion Lutheran Church in Valley Park. His parents and mine were very good friends, as were John and I, and I recall him as a very good student. I also was not surprised that he became an architect as he could draw well. I truly mourn his passing and pray God's comfort to you, his family.

Sympathies from Zion Lutheran Church in Valley Park, Mo. Have known and loved John's family for many years. As a preschool teacher at Zion I recall John's beloved father and our dear friend always dressed in Indian garb and performed for the kiddoes at their annual Thanksgiving Feast. Well we were all very sad when he passed away very near Thanksgiving. But never fear, when time came for our feast who should appear in the full Indian gear but John Jr. and he played the part perfectly. God's Blessings to you all and may God give you comfort and love.

With sadness, I saw this in the St. Louis Post. Not a month ago, I spoke of John, as we drove past our old homes. John got his love of learning from his Father, John.
Condolences to his family from the old neighborhood.

Ever since we learned that John so unexpectedly passed away, we are left with a heavy silent numbness. Words wither away. We know and don’t know the truth expressed in our Scriptures: “But truly, as the Lord lives and as you yourself live, there is but a step between me and death.” Added to the shock and distress is the profound feeling of loss, of no longer being able to relate to John, a person of integrity, attentive to life in so many of its different expressions and manifestations. We remember the many times John unassumingly shared with us insights and reflections coming out of his engagements with everything that some way or another had caught his attention and interest.
I have quite a few times this last week taken in my hand the arrowhead that he gave me from his childhood collection as a Christmas present. Holding it in my hand make memories reappear in distinctness and with a sense of an unending bond.
A word in Swedish, difficult to translate, flows into our minds and souls when thinking about John: “Vemod”, which describes a calm quiet mood of loss and pensive sadness, because something or someone is lost and is no more.
Linda, Sara and Joe, Kate and David Chris and Khristina, we fail to understand all that now is and must be in your heart and which is heavy on your shoulders. Our thoughts, prayers and love are with you from afar.

John was a great friend. He and I had lunch every Tuesday and I never tired of discussing a wide variety of topics with him. John had many fine qualities but the one I most admired was his ability to always give people the benefit of the doubt. Tuesdays will not be the same without him.
Heartfelt condolences to Linda and his family.

Dear Linda,
You may not remember this but when my mother passed away unexpectedly, you took the time to offer condolences to me. I have never forgotten how kind you were to me during such a difficult time.
Now here I am struggling to find the right words but they're not forthcoming because I understand your pain. There are no words that can properly express the loss of a loved one. I want you to know that I'm so very sorry. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
With sympathy,
Judy Daines

I am so saddened by this sudden loss. Mr. Farbry was such a warm welcoming force and he will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He was very thoughtful and generous with his knowledge and passion for music. I did not get to see him often but whenever I did he was always quick to share his latest musical find or read with me. Several years ago, a couple weeks after he and I had quite a lengthy conversation about the making of the musical The Music Man I received a surprise package with a copy of the book “But He Doesn’t Know the Territory” the making of Meredith Willson’s The Music Man by Meredith Willson and the DVD Hello Dolly, just because the book he thought I would really enjoy and of the DVD Hello Dolly he said, “It just gets better every time I see it.”

He drove all the way from Springfield to a Baltimore hospital to welcome his new granddaughter, eventhough the traffic was tough and he had gone through chemotherapy. I saw no fatique in his eyes, just joy and a beaming of love. Although we have not met, he greeted me as if I was already a part of his family; you must be Khristina's sister, he said with warmth. Thank you, John, for reminding me what heart, wisdom, and "being there" meant. I am glad our paths crossed, even if briefly. To Sara, Kate, and Christopher, you have one awesome dad. To the Farbry's, I send my deepest condolences. Please let me know if I can do anything to help.
