Obituary of Lillian Alice Mentz

Lillian Alice Mentz, 81, of Oak Ridge, TN, peacefully passed away on October 11, 2018 in Herndon, VA.

Born on April 25, 1937 in Sequatchie, TN she was the daughter of the late George Minor and Cleo Coppinger.  Lillian was the 3^rd eldest of 8 children.

Lillian forged her own path. At the young age of 21, she left Tennessee to Washington DC to pursue a career. She spent several years as a secretary in Washington, DC and New York City before moving into membership administration for a Reston, VA based non-profit.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Edgar Julius Mentz and their three children, Douglas Mentz, Susan Cappellini and Stephanie Breakman.  She was also blessed with four grandchildren.

In retirement, she was very active with her husband, seniors and friends through numerous activities and trips.  She frequently won big at weekly Bingo gatherings as well. Ever cheerful, she was always joyful, known by all who knew her as “Sweet Lila”.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Adams Green Funeral Home.

• Funeral Service: 1 – 1:45pm
• Burial: 2pm at Chestnut Grove Cemetery 
• Post-funeral gathering: Ice House Café from 2:30 – 4:30pm

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Hospital or Shriners Hospitals.
