Obituary of June Dove Leong

Leong, June Dove (Age 91) Of Oak Hill, Va on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Sunrise at Reston Town Center. Beloved wife of the late Richard W. Leong, M.D.; devoted mother of Richard W. (Janice) Leong, Jr., D.D.S., Lotus Leong (George) Yu, and Tammy Leong (Ken) Taura. She is also survived by 6 Granchildren , Wil Leong, Bian and Lia Yu, Kyle (Erika) and Elly Taura. June was a graduate of Girl's Polytechnic School and attended Multnomah Teacher's College in journalism and acting. At 19, she was Crown Princess of the State of Oregon and travelled with the royal court across the United States and Cuba. June shared her love of God and talents as a biblical solo dramatist performing in New York and Texas churches to raise charitable funds for church missions and spread Christian joy. She and her husband were active members in the Chinese community in Houston as leaders in the Chinese American Citizens Alliance and the Chinese Professional Club. As a writer for the Southwest Chinese Journal and the Houston Asia News, June covered local events, interviewed celebrities and prominent members of the community. She was the founder of the June Dove Leong Symposium, which provided Asian doctors the opportunity to meet regularly and share their knowledge. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Houston for 42 years. In all her pursuits, June shared her love for God and spread His word. A Memorial Service will be held at Cedar Run Community Church 13560 McLearen Road, Oak Hill, Va on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Houston National Cemetery, Houston, TX.
