Obituary of Inger Welde

Inger Welde, age 87, of Potomac Falls, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 3, 2019 in Herndon, Virginia surrounded by her family. Inger was born on April 25, 1931 in Beitstad, a village in the municipality of Steinkjer in Trøndelag County, Norway to Ole and Nora Terese (Sotberg) Welde. She was the youngest of nine children and comes from a strong lineage of Norwegian ancestry including her grandfather Aleksander Leopold Welde, who served as politician and sheriff of Beitstad, and great-grandfather Ole Sivert Mortensen Welde, who served as mayor and sheriff of Beitstad and as a Member of Norwegian Parliament.

Inger had an adventurous spirit following in the footsteps of her Aunt Solveig, who traveled the world. She left her small hometown of Beitstad when she was 18 and traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark where she lived for many years, worked as a chef and went to culinary school. Her penchant for travel to beautiful places got the better part of her and she left her work to tour Europe. She learned many different skill sets and met a lot of different people as she traveled throughout Europe to Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and London on her many adventures.

Inger eventually arrived in Manhattan, New York City in 1963 and as a strong, intelligent woman of many talents and spirit of entrepreneurship, she owned her own boutique clothing line which employed seven people and served an upscale clientele. She was artistic and creative, painting original works and crafting porcelain pieces. She was also a fantastic cook, always baking, especially her notorious strawberry cake and serving dishes for family events and outings. She had a great love for animals and the outdoors as well.

Inger met Wilfrid Jesus Lim in 1973 while he worked at Security Pacific International Bank in New York City. It seemed like fate brought them together when Wilfrid happened to answer Inger’s phone call that led to many interesting and intellectual conversations. They developed a lifelong friendship and eventual marriage. Inger and Wilfrid moved to Arlington, Virginia in 1978 and raised two boys. Inger worked for many years at Hecht's Department store where she was consistently acknowledged as a valued employee. She had a special gift for talking to people, an easy conversationalist and made friends with everyone she met. She loved telling stories and brought light and warmth to those around her.

Inger is survived by her husband, Wilfrid J. Lim; her son Peer Eric Welde and his wife Lisa; her son Alexander Lim and his wife Katrina; and three grandchildren Kevin, Gavin and Keira; and a large extended family in Norway to include the Welde, Richstad, Malvik, Ringen, Uppstrøm and Galschøidt Families.

A Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, February 16th from 11:00am - 12:00pm at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, located at 46833 Harry Byrd Highway, Sterling, VA 20164, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 12:00pm, with a reception to follow at the Bungalow Lakehouse located at 46116 Lake Center Plaza, Sterling, VA 20165. All friends and family are welcome to attend and celebrate Inger's life.
