Obituary of John Salvatore Grimaldi

A much-loved father, grandfather, husband, son, uncle, and brother, John Salvatore Grimaldi, 87, of Herndon, VA, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2019 surrounded by his family.

John was born on November 9, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY where he spent many days playing stickball and baseball.  He was in the US Navy from 1951-1955 and received an Honorable Discharge.  He later resided in Deer Park, NY raising four children with the love of his life, Ann Rotondi. He worked for Westinghouse Broadcasting in New York City for 35 years as General Services Supervisor.  After he retired, he enjoyed fishing and playing cribbage with family and friends.  He was an excellent cook, famous for his lasagna and Italian meatballs!  As an avid Yankee fan, he celebrated his 80^th birthday on the field of Yankee stadium, which brought back fond memories of his major league tryout at the old Yankee stadium sharing the outfield with his idol, Mickey Mantle.

John was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Ann Rotondi of Brooklyn, NY, and grandson, Joseph Robert Grimaldi, of Atlanta, GA.  He is survived by his children: Lisa (Dan) Turissini; John (Risa) Grimaldi, Bob (Adrienne) Grimaldi, and Lori (Richard) Quigley.  John treasured every moment with all of his grandchildren: Daniel (Christy) Turissini, Cristofer Turissini, Jon Turissini, Sara (Josh) Wooten, Julia Grimaldi, Nicholas Grimaldi, Maria (Justin) Rill, Matthew Quigley and Emily Quigley along with his great granddaughter, Anna Turissini and several very special nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, February 9, at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA 20170 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the American Cancer Society or the Fisher House Foundation.  Special thanks go out to the staff and veterans at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Washington DC for their loving care and friendship.
