Obituary of Claire Lucille Goggins

Claire Lucille Prevost Goggins passed peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the age of 78, after a 2-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.  She was born in Tiverton, Rhode Island on April 29, 1940 and was raised there by her parents Arthur and Lina Prevost.

She graduated from Dominican Academy in 1958 and attended Amhurst College earning her Associates degree.  She met the love of her life in Newport, Rhode Island and soon married John “Jack” Joseph Goggins in 1964.  She was a faithful military wife during Jack’s 28 years of active duty with the United States Navy.  She made a home all along the eastern seaboard where she never failed to make great friends and memories along the way.  Once moving to Virginia, Claire worked as an accountant for more than 30 years with a CPA firm in Reston, Virginia.  She was pre-deceased by Jack in 1997 after 33 years of marriage.  She is also pre-deceased by her parents Arthur Prevost (2012) and Lina Prevost (1997).

Claire was an active member of her church and along with Jack, an active supporter of the Knights of Columbus.  She enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening, traveling, hosting gatherings for her friends and family, and spending time with her grandchildren.  She will be remembered for her dedication to her family, taking an active role in raising her grandchildren, and instilling in her children and grandchildren the importance of family and the love of vacationing!

Claire is survived by her three children, Michele Goggins of Ashburn, Virginia, Renee (Keith) Ball of Broadlands, Virginia, and Kathie (Harry) Burns of Holiday, Florida; and four grandchildren, Kasey Ball, Emilie Ball, Allison Ball and Rachel Burns.

A Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 6 – 8pm at Adams-Green Funeral Home, located at 721 Elden Street, Herndon, Virginia and a Visitation for family from 3 – 4pm on Friday, February 15, 2019 followed by a funeral mass at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church located at 46833 Harry Byrd Highway, Sterling, Virginia.  Mass will be followed by a reception at Brambleton Corner Clubhouse, 42255 Palladian Blue Terrace, Brambleton, Virginia.  All family and friends are welcome to attend to celebrate Claire’s life.  There will be an interment service at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date where she will be laid to rest with her late husband.
