What a wonderful photo of Al, and it is just as I will remember him. My relationship with Al began when he first attended the Community Bible Study at McLean Bible Church as a guest of Kip Gardner. Later my wife and I met June on a tour of the Museum of the Bible. The smile on Al's face is so reminiscent of our times together on Thursday evenings as he delighted to share his insight into Scripture. We have missed him this year due to health concerns, but are assured that we will see him later. I pray for blessings, comfort, and peace for the family (2 Cor. 1:3-5).

In 1982, I had just become the Director of the Strategic Technology Office at DARPA. I was in my office and a person came in and said his name was Al Brandenstein. I asked him what I could do for him. He said that I was his new Deputy. I was stunned since I did not know anything about it. We talked and created a friendship that lasted being at DARPA, ONDCP and other jobs that we both had. Al was a great friend. We understood each other and were always there for each other when it counted. I will miss him.
