Struggling with the feelings of so much wasted time for the years we lost touch. I am thankful for the opportunity we had to reconnect, but it wasn't near enough time to catch up on each other's lives. I've gone through your photos and can see that my sweet, caring friend lived a happy life and was blessed with 2 beautiful daughters. I will always have memories of our friendship from Ortega Hills, Yearbook Staff at Forrest High School, the Motley Crue concert when you lost your shoe, meeting your brother and his friends when they came home on leave and my most precious memories of you and your mom as my first roommates. You both made me feel like family. That will have to be enough until we meet again. Heaven gained an angel and we sure lost one.
May the kind words and left here, along with Shawnea living on in others, be a comfort to family and friends.

Shawnea was one of the most special people I have ever known and she came into my life at a time I truly needed her. My neighbor for 3 years in Portsmouth, VA she took me under her wing when I was new to the state and knew no one. She cooked for me and shared her beautiful girls with me. She helped me through the birth of a premature baby and celebrated with me when he came home. I will always cherish my memories of her. My heart is with you all.

My deepest sympathies go to Shawnea's daughters, husband and family. I only met Shawnea over the phone during her interview with our company in 2018. Her enthusiasm for life, for her work were infectious. She was a breath of fresh air. I can still hear her laughing voice as she explained to me how to pronounce her name.
Shawnea will be sorely missed by all.

I echo what Ryan Montgomery said: Shawnea was such a delight to work with- even if it was 100% virtually. She was so smart and always had a great attitude, and was feisty and a fellow feminist.
Most importantly, I hope her daughter knows how proud she was of her, as she would mention things like Prom and cheerleading, and how excited we were for her when she gave us updates.
Such a beautiful person- inside and out- gone too soon. My condolences to your family.

I cannot put into words how sad I am to hear this. Shawnea and I only met in person a few times since we live far away from each other, but we worked with each other at the same IT company for many years. I owe my current career in IT in large part to Shawnea. She found my resume online and recommended me for an interview - and I have been working for that company since 2002.
I was young and fairly impressionable when we first met. She was only two years older but she seemed wise for her years. She was so smart and resourceful, and was very kind and good with people. She often talked about her children, and I know she loved them very much.
After she left our company, we lost touch but I have continued to think of her. I'm so happy to know that she was a woman of faith. I'm just so sorry that she left to be with the Lord so soon. I pray that her children treasure their memories of her, and grow to be strong women of God like their mother, and that God will provide comfort to all her family and friends. I will never forget her.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Shawnea.
I worked with Shawnea years ago at Gannett in Norfolk. She was a kind soul with so much talent. Her girls were so loved and she lit up whenever she spoke about them or when they visited. She knitted me an oven mitt long ago that I use to this day because it has been my favorite. I will think of her so fondly when I use it. She will be missed.

I will always remember your bright personality and singing , happy voice on our daily calls at work. I still want to call you "Shawn-yay" after hearing you so happily call it out on one of my earliest work days and it was attitude like yours that really made me love what i do and my new team.

Our heartfelt condolences to Shawnea's family, her mother, and especially Torrie and Em. We will sadly miss the service on Sat., as it conflicts with Meredith's Level 9 State Gymnastics Meet, which starts at noon on Sat. Being the mom that Shawnea was, she'd say that there was no where else we should be at that time...that's who she was. She changed my life for the better. Our time together, as "Gym Mom's", was so precious to me. Far too many memories to share, but I will say that she helped me through a very challenging domestic time in my life...and the lives of my kids. She lifted us up, made us laugh, and was always there for us. Our weekends together and travel meets afforded us the opportunity to have fun, support each other as single moms, and relax over great food and a glass of wine. I will never forget this amazing woman, who will always remain in my heart!!
