Obituary of Glenn Francis Sylvia

Glenn F Sylvia, 63, of Sterling, VA passed away Tuesday May 7th, 2019 after a long battle with cancer.  Glenn is survived by his wife of 23 years Lisa (nee Rollison), daughter Elizabeth, brothers Curtis (Colleen), Jeff (Margie), and Brian, sisters Monica Quinn (Kenneth) and Dianne Engelhardt (Karl), 6 nephews, 3 nieces, 2 great-nephews, and 5 great-nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Sylvia Jr. and Mary Elizabeth (nee Caylor).

Glenn was born in Fort Belvoir, Virginia on February 10, 1956 and was the 1st child of Edward and Mary Sylvia.  The family relocated to Summerville, SC. where Glenn graduated from Summerville HS in June 1974.

Following graduation Glenn enlisted in the US Army and served as a Combat Engineer.  Glenn did his basic training at Fort Knox, KY.  While in the Army, Glenn was stationed in Korea for part of his service.  Glenn earned the rank of Sergeant before separating with an Honorable Discharge in December of 1979 and settled in Sterling, VA.  After separating from service with the Army, Glenn joined Pepsi Bottling Group as a repair technician, retiring after 35 years.  While working for Pepsi, one of Glenn’s favorite job sites was working the Maryland Renaissance Fair each fall.

Glenn had a passion for genealogy research.  He loved discovering and sharing information and photos of his ancestry with his family.  One of his favorite projects was converting old photographs to digital format so he could easily share them with others and for preservation for future generations to come.  Glenn was also an avid reader, with criminal and historical genres among his favorites; he also enjoyed painting, computers, but most of all spending time with his family.

We will all remember Glenn for his huge heart, kind soul, and easy manner.
