Obituary of Candace Kay Noonan

Candace Noonan of Reston, VA, passed away on July 18, 2019 from heart disease at age 72.  She worked for the Federal Government in Washington D.C. for more than 40 years, most of that time for the Department of Transportation. 

Candy, daughter of the late Ray J. and Elizabeth G. Noonan of St. Louis, is survived by her siblings Phyllis Noonan of Newburyport, MA; Jeanne Hunter and husband Jim of St. Louis, MO, and their daughters Nancy Hunter (Atlanta, GA) and Susan Hunter-Garrison (Chapel Hill, NC); John Noonan and wife Alene of Broomfield, CO, and their daughters Kelly Flood (Erie, CO) and Erin Noonan (La Habra, CA).

Candy was a life-long Cardinals baseball fan.  She, along with our journalist father, when not at a live game cheering for Stan the Man Musial, or Bob Gibson, or the Mad Hungarian, would huddle on the front porch listening to play by plays by Jack Buck or Harry Caray.  Her move to D.C., which would become her home for the rest of her life, didn’t dampen her devotion.  She listened from afar as Lou Brock eclipsed Ty Cobb’s stolen bases record in 1977, and had a photo hanging in her office of Mark McGwire in 1998 rounding the bases of his 70th home run in a single season, surpassing Roger Maris’ record.  She loved it all following every season enthusiastically.

There will be a memorial gathering at Adams-Green Funeral Home Wednesday, September 18, from 4pm to 7pm.  All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Smithsonian in her memory.  For anyone who wishes you may send donations directly.  Checks should be made out to the Smithsonian, but please include “In Memory of Candace Noonan” either directly on your check or in an attached note.
