I could always depend on Karen to brighten up the darkest/gloomiest of days. I would walk into the office and face a happy, positive woman, ready to take on the challenges of the day. Her cheerful, disposition placed my worst days into the 'doesn't matter' category. I always looked forward to hearing wherever her vacation adventures would take her. I am blessed to have worked with and gotten to know Karen McCready. My God bless her always.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Karen and I talked so much prior to her trip to South Africa and when she came back, I got to look through every one of her amazing pictures. Then I got to see her book too! She was so adventurous and kind. When Prince William married, she had recorded all the coverage and since I didn't get to see anything, she made me a DVD compilation that I still have. The world is a sadder place without her smile, laugh and infectious enthusiasm.

Karen and I were Zoology majors at Carolina and we were friends from the first day there. Her friendship, adventurous spirit, her sense of humor, and her loving nature will never be forgotten. Our field experiences in Zoology involved chasing mockingbirds and ostriches to record their behavior. As always, those times were full of laughter. She would play pick-up football and basketball with the guys on her quad, and I am sure she was a formidable opponent. Her fearlessness was exhibited by skydiving while at UNC, bungee jumping in Africa and pressing the pedal to the metal in her Corvette. She was an awesome Mom to Koby and Sparky. She was devoted to her family. I will miss my dear friend.

Karen was my best friend while we attended UNC-Chapel Hill. She was my Maid of Honor at my wedding. She loved sports and taught me that you cannot like the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys at the same time. I chose the Washington Redskins with her. When my husband began flying planes, we flew up to see Karen. She loved her dogs. Sparky was her last pet. I admired how Karen traveled all over the world with her mom as well as alone to the Olympics in Utah and to Africa. I encourage everyone to live life BIG and LOUD like Karen. Karen loved her family and friends. We miss you, Karen, but we have the hope in Christ that we will see each other again.
