Dede has “the voice”- that powerful tone that said the unspoken truth. Whether it was a performance review, board meeting, coaching session or just a friendly talk- you knew by the voice if you were on the wrong side of right. And no one I know laughed better than Dede- even when she was laughing at herself. Anyone who knew her is better for knowing her.

Dede was always a force of nature. We were in school together at UVA for our first year. Amazingly, we reconnected a few years ago and I was lucky enough to see her twice since. She never met a barrier that made her flinch. I’m so happy to have spent time with this amazing woman and hear about her love for her family, her church and the young women whose lives she impacted. I know that deep throated laugh is echoing through the heavens.

Dede was thoughtful, kind, and nurturing. When I first met Dede, I was new to the area. She welcomed me to Reston and Women in Technology. Her encouraging words went a long way to ensure our shared passion for girls succeeding in STEM was realized. Thank you for your friendship and your special form of cheerleading. You will be missed.

I met Dede when she recruited me to join STEM for Her. She was a force to be reckoned with both in her business acumen and tenacity and her deep love for her friends and family. Her determination to carry on long past her diagnosed life expectancy is just another example of the power behind Dede's convictions. I will miss her direct yet warm, loving style. I pray that her family and friends know with Jesus' blessed assurance that we haven't seen the last of Dede Haskins! 'Til we meet again in paradise Dede!

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Dede in the technology community throughout her tenure. As a serial entrepreneur and active member in the community, Dede and I also served on many Boards together. As the Founding President of WIT, Dede was an inspiration to us all and played a significant role in growing the organization. We have lost a friend, mentor, and a truly amazing woman. Her impact and influence will live on forever and I for one am grateful for having the opportunity to have spent time with her over many years. You will be missed, but never forgotten. Dede was a WIT and SFH colleague of mine and I will remember her as welcoming and open in our early conversations and funny, warm and super honest in our ongoing conversations. She was so brave through her illness and it was wonderful to see her showing up at WIT events despite her illness.
