Obituary of Catherine Dorman McCullough

Catherine "Cathy" Dorman McCullough

 

Catherine "Cathy" Dorman McCullough, died August 8th at home surrounded by her loving family ending her brave battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer. 

 

Cathy was was a 14 year cancer survivor, she had been in remission until November 2017 when she was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer. Despite the disease, Cathy was always able to remain positive, happy, and kind until the end. She was a bright light in a dark time and a true inspiration to everyone around her.

 

Cathy was born in 1958 in Poughkeepsie, New York, to Henry and Catherine (Fox) Dorman. She grew up in Cedar Grove, New Jersey and settled in Sterling, Virginia in 1994. She married the love of her life, Wayne McCullough, in 1989 and gave birth to her greatest life accomplishments, Megan (1991) and Kevin McCullough (1995), both of Sterling, VA.

 

She held a Master's Degree in Human Resources from Marymount University.  In her lifetime she held a variety of jobs including Manager of a Pathmark grocery store in New Jersey and Maryland. She worked for decades as a recruiter at companies including Roberts Ryan & Bentley, Executive Recruiters, and Resolvit. Until June 2019, she worked as an independent contractor doing recruiting for EY, under her own company, The KNM Group.

 

Cathy loved to spend time with her family, especially while on vacation. Some of her favorite family memories were made while traveling the country. She loved visiting the National Parks, as well as the Disney and Universal Parks. She enjoyed skiing in both Colorado and Canada on multiple occasions. 

 

She is survived by her beloved husband Wayne McCullough, loving children Megan and Kevin McCullough, and cherished parents Henry and "Kay" Dorman. She is also survived by her sibling Peter Dorman (Jackie), Christopher Dorman (Kathy), and Matthew Dorman (Lisa); as well as her 10 nieces and nephews.

 

A celebration of life will take place at 11:00AM, Tuesday, August 13th at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 201 E Frederick Dr, Sterling VA, 20164. Reception to follow immediately afterwards at the family home until 4:00PM. 

 

The family wishes to thank Kathy Nekic, a close family friend; the team at Georgetown Lombardi Center including her nurses Julie, Paula, Kat, Jeanie and her oncologist, Dr. Pullman; Capital Caring; and Cathy's many, many friends who stayed in touch and visited her.
