Obituary of Keith Raymond Gittings

KEITH RAYMOND GITTINGS

1978 - 2019

Herndon – Keith Raymond Gittings passed away peacefully in his sleep in Herndon on August 22, 2019.  Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 1, 1978, Keith spent his childhood in Brooklyn and in Freehold, NJ.  After earning his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and his master’s degree in Computer Science from James Madison University, Keith moved to Herndon, VA where he spent the last 19 years in cybersecurity employed with government contractors (Peraton, Harris, Leidos and SAIC).

Keith was a devoted husband to Heather E. Ragland Gittings and a loving father to his 2 daughters, Penelope and Genevieve.  Keith and Heather met in London 20 years ago, and together have enjoyed a life filled with travel, golf and skiing.  Keith loved the outdoors and the walkability of Herndon.  He especially enjoyed walking Penelope home from school, and was looking forward to walking with both girls this Fall as Genevieve starts kindergarten.  He could often be found on the Herndon golf course or in one of the many local restaurants and rarely missed a Friday Night Live.

While he was a serious Yankees fan, Keith’s true love was spending time with Heather and the girls.  Two of his favorite activities were cooking and chess, which he enjoyed sharing with Penelope and Genevieve. He had a quick wit and was often called “the life of the party”, but will always be remembered as a loyal friend and devoted and loving father and husband.

Survivors include his wife, Heather E. Ragland Gittings of Herndon; his two beloved daughters, Penelope and Genevieve of Herndon; his parents, Raymond F. Gittings and Lorraine A. Gittings of Charlotte, NC; his sister, Amy G. Wichman (Eric) of Charlotte; his niece, Emily J. Wichman; and his nephew, Mark E. Wichman.  In addition, he will be remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family, friends and neighbors.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11am Thursday, August 29^th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Herndon, VA.
