Obituary of Joseph Tangredi

Joseph Tangredi passed away on August 28, 2019 in Reston, Virginia. He was 95 years old.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1924. After graduating from Boys’ High, he served in the U.S. Infantry in Europe during World War II. Upon his return, he attended the City College of New York where, despite being the son of uneducated Italian immigrants, he earned a full merit-based scholarship. He subsequently earned an MBA degree from New York University.

He worked as a production supervisor at Mergenthaler Linotype Corporation, a contracts analyst at Grumman Aerospace Corporation, and a probation officer for Suffolk County, New York. At Grumman, he worked on the Apollo program, and was proud to have been part of the team that produced the lunar landers, including the one that brought the Apollo 13 crew safely back to Earth.

But he will be most remembered for the steady love and dedication he gave to his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years, Rose Costanza Tangredi. He is survived by his children, Michael Tangredi, husband of Julie Edwards Tangredi, and Mary Tangredi Lee, wife of Ronald Lee; by his grandchildren Robert Lee, Elizabeth Tangredi Gonnerman, wife of Jeremy Gonnerman, and Jessica Lee; and by his great granddaughter Bailey Gonnerman.
