Obituary of Margaret Ann Greenwell

Margaret Ann (Purcell) Greenwell passed away 13 September, 2019, after a lifetime of commitment and service to her family, church and community. She was born ninety years ago in the same home in Brookland, Washington, DC where she lived until a few months before her death.  Margaret was a devoted wife to her husband John Aloysius Greenwell who predeceased her.  She was also a diligent care giver to her parents Edward E. and Margaret Purcell in the last years of their lives.  Both of Margaret’s brothers Edward and Robert passed away several years ago but she is survived by many godchildren, and dozens of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and a number of great grand nieces and nephews as well as cousins, friends and neighbors.

She was very active in her parish Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, where she was baptized, made her First Communion and was married.  Margaret was a graduate of Saint Anthony’s elementary and high school.  Brookland was her lifelong home where she participated in many neighborhood watch activities.  Her career in banking spanned several decades. As her health deteriorated in the past few months Margaret resided at the Louise Lisner Hurt Home and her family thanks its kind and caring staff.
