Obituary of Richard LaRe

Richard LaRe of Sterling, VA passed away suddenly on Saturday September 21, 2019 from a Stroke. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Thelma May  LaRe and his Sister, Mary LaRe. He is survived by his second wife Janice LaRe, his three sons (from his first marriage to Deborah LaRe), Richard LaRe Jr, Charles LaRe and Jeffrey LaRe, his Father Colonel John LaRe, USAF Retired, brothers John (Nancy) LaRe and Anthony (Ella) LaRe, sisters Karen (Richard) LaRe King, Linda LaRe McPeak, Susan (David) LaRe Herzer and Joanne (Michael)  LaRe Thompson. He is also survived by a Granddaughter Faith LaRe and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Richard (Ricky to his siblings) was born on March 26, 1950 at Fairfield-Suisun Air Force Base in Vacaville, California. He was the second child of then Capt. John and Thelma LaRe, Due to his father's military service, Richard moved frequently as a child, living in France, Germany (twice), Georgia, Alabama and Virginia. He graduated High School from Sidney Lanier HS in Montgomery, Alabama in June 1968. Shortly thereafter, Richard, following in his father's footsteps, joined the Air Force and volunteered to go to Vietnam. He was stationed at Thon Son Nhut AFB outside Saigon until 1971. After being Honorably Discharged from the Air Force, Richard joined the Reserves, serving 5 additional years in service to his Country. Upon leaving activity duty, Richard went to work as a Civilian for the Federal Government, initially at the Pentagon and ultimately spending the majority of his career at the Washington Naval Yard. He eventually retired from the Federal Government in 2003 after spending 35 years in the Military/Federal Government.

Richard was a big fan of Western TV shows and old movies. He could spend hours watching old reruns. Richard was also an avid football fan, especially when it came to College Football,  Penn State University in particular. He had  played football all throughout his high school years and his love of the sport continued with him until his untimely passing. Accordingly, Rick will be wearing his favorite Penn State University shirt at his viewing. 

 A public viewing for friends and neighbors will follow from 6-8 pm. Following the service, Richard's remains will be cremated and then interred in Arlington National Cemetery with full Military Honors at a future date.
