Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Hylton

Mary Elizabeth Hylton, 94, of Sterling, VA, passed away on November 10, 2019 at her home.

Born on December 16, 1925 in Arlington, VA she was the daughter of the late William Churchner and the late Alice Radcliff Churchner.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her twin brothers Andy Churchner, Amos Churchner and her husband of 48 years, Hiram Neil Hylton.  

She worked for the United States Tax Court in Washington, DC for 40 years an was very active in her church.  She served for 30+ years on her HOA Board and enjoyed being the neighborhood grandmother.  She loved to talk to everyone and never meet a stranger.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.  She always said that her many “grands” keep her young and going.

She is survived by her only daughter, Alyce Bowman (69) of Wheatland WY, her grandson, Dwight Cox (49) of Sterling VA, her granddaughter, Robin Shomaker (47) of Conway, SC, her 6 great grandchildren and her 8 great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3:30 PM until 4:30 PM on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Adams Green Funeral Home. 

A funeral service will be held at 4:30 PM on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Adams Green Funeral Home in Herndon, VA.  Burial will be on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Hylton Family Cemetery in Covington, VA.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Chuildren’s Hospital in her honor.
