Obituary of Carl Michael Scheffel

Carl Michael “Mike” Scheffel, 85, of Leesburg died peacefully on November 25th surrounded by his family after a brief illness.  Mike was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Marie, his brother John and his infant son Stephen.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Patricia, sisters Rose Marie Marrow and Sue Hegre, children Mark and his wife Nancy, Wendy and her husband Bob, and Lisa and her partner George, as well as 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Born in Washington, D.C., Mike grew up in Arlington, Virginia.  He loved spending time running calls with Arlington Company 1 with his father, uncles, and cousins.  He and Pat met at Washington and Lee high school, were married soon after graduation and started a family.  After a nearly 40-year career with Westinghouse Electric Supply, he retired to spend time with his family and to play golf.  He took great pride and joy in the successes of his children and their growing families.  He and Pat were always there to cheer the kids on at whatever sporting event they were participating in.

Golf was his great passion.  He loved working around courses as a starter or in the proshop and playing rounds with his “Gotcha” group and later with friends at Lansdowne.  One of his greatest pleasures was teaching his grandchildren about the game of golf and playing rounds with his grandsons.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, December 4th at 10:00 am with a service to follow at 11:00 at the Adams-Green Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon.  All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department at 20688 Ashburn Road, Ashburn, VA 20147
