Cal and Nancy did indeed attend the CenterStage performances faithfully and I was always particularly touched by their attendance at contemporary dance events. After one particularly inscrutable hour-plus of watching an Italian dancer place herself on a sculptural version of a chaise lounge, Cal kindly noted that he was certain something meaningful had inspired her and wished he knew what it was. It remains among my favorite post-show comments of all time. He was a mensch, brilliant, generous and kind to all. I miss him tremendously and send love to his family and friends.
