I wish I had known I could have been in touch with her as recently as a few weeks ago. She and her family were an important part of my growing up. I took tap dancing lessons from her and was in her Cub Scout pack. Her home was a home away from home for me and my twin sister. Her family were often at our home nearby for skating in the winter, swimming and fishing in the summer, and watching Walt Disney together. A couple of summers I accompanied her family to Dallas PA where my sister took ballet lessons while Barbara's mother chauffeured the boys around to Harvey's Lake, Rickets Glen and Noxen, and we explored the joys of Dallas on our own. My belated thanks to Barbara and the Harding family. John Reynolds

I met the Harding family in first grade (1954) at Herndon Elementary School, where Susie and I were classmates and good friends. As I spent lots of time at the Harding House, I was always amazed by Mrs. Harding's abilities to do everything and with a smile. My attempts at ballet and tap were not very noteworthy, but it was fun trying! I am so glad for the family as well as the community that she lived as long as she did, making contributions everywhere she went. She was an amazing woman who will be missed by everyone she touched. I offer my sincere condolences to the entire family. I am sorry I was not aware of the funeral in time to attend. Sincerely, Diana (Canney) Dutton

I have always had the utmost respect and admiration for 'Mrs. Harding' beginning when she was my Ballet instructor, Kindergarten Teacher, Neighbor, Accordian player and sing-a-long leader at annual Town Tree Lightings when I was a child growing up in Herndon. As I grew and had children of my own (whom she also taught as Kindergartners), I watched in awe in the summer as she would lead a very ORDERLY line of preschoolers at the Herndon Recreation Pool, with certain authority but also always with a smile, radiating kindness and mutual respect.
Barbara was a true Herndon ICON...faithfully dedicated to Community Service. She was equally willing to lend a hand, or take the lead -- whenever needed. Her unique ability to lead by example for both children and adults served us all well. She was a positive influence on many lives and definitely made an important impact on my life! I am very grateful that she was a part of it.

Barbara Harding was one of the most wonderful, inspiring people I ever met. I was a new kindergarten teacher at Herndon Elementary many years ago and I learned more from watching her work with the children than I ever did in a classroom. She was just an amazing person and a wonderful example to us all.

My life has been immeasurably enriched by knowing Barbara, starting in 1976 or 1977 when I began English country dancing once a week in her home on Jackson Street in Herndon. I'll always remember with a smile her unique ways of describing some of the dance moves. Around the same time, I began hosting visiting Danish gymnasts and folkdancers whenever Barbara organized their home stays. English country dancing and Denmark have continued to be important parts of my life, and I am deeply indebted to Barbara for introducing me to them.

The first time I met Barbara was in 1992 in Herndon as a part of a group of Danish sports leaders, educators and clergymen, who came to America to study "Democracy in Religion, Sport and Education". The trip also took us to Berea, Brasstown and Burnsville (NC). I clearly remember her desire to want to make things happen. Since then I met her numerous times at Christmas Country Dance School and always had the honor of dancing with her, when she could. To me she leaves notion of commitment and quality and a desire to break down walls.

Barbara Harding made an indelible impression on all she met with her boundless energy and joy. Whether she was keeping us together as a choir at St. Timothy's, or calling the dances at Harding Hall on Friday night, she led with her head high and the world is sadder for her passing.

It's hard to pick one memory of a woman as special as Barbara Harding. She did so much for the children-- and their parents -- in this community. As a Herndon Elementary parent I knew her as a teacher. She introduced our family to the Children's Christmas Choir and to the Danish Exchange program, experiences that we'll never forget and that enriched our family. We are richer to have known her and Herndon is a better place to live because she enriched it by her passion to live life fully.
