Karen Kok I am so sorry to hear about Jay. Jay was an amazing caring, generous, hard working and happy person. He was an awesome colleague of mine for many, many years and my Director for a few years when we worked together at MCI. He was a great leader and manager and hard worker who would always make work fun even during some difficult times for MCI. I remember him fondly and am so saddened and shocked. Life is too short. My heart goes out to his family and friends. RIP my friend.

Keith Steiner So sad to learn of Jay's passing. Because it's coming up to 17 years since leaving MCI I think of all of us as we were back then and in the years prior to that. He passed away at such a young age. It was an honor to work with him for many years. May Jay rest in peace.
Joe Lawrence One of the most reliable honest and dedicated guys
I ever worked with at MCI
Karen Doherty So sorry to hear the news - RIP Jay!
Richard Dahms I am so sad and broken up to read of Jay's passing. If I had to describe Jay, it would be "gentle giant". He is a giant of a person and was a rock of stability in MCI during the hyper growth years of the 1980s (and beyond when MCI matured as a company). I first met Jay when I started with the company in 1980. We were both in the Pete Laros Controller organization at our 17th Street Headquarters. Later in the decade during decentralization, I interacted with Jay regularly when he was in the Mid Atlantic Division Finance under Joe Lawrence and I was in Corporate Planning and Budgets. His monthly Presidents' Package submissions with the Divisions operating results were always accurate and on-time. He made my job of consolidation and presentation much easier. In the 1990s, I was blessed to be the Don Lynch VP/SVP organization Staff Puke. Jay was a Director direct report in Don's organization. Many great ideas that helped make the Don Lynch organization successful in the 1990s came quietly from Jay. I remember I once made an error in judgment early on as Staff Puke. Jay came to me, took me aside and gave me his correction in baseball terms (because he knew I loved baseball) saying, "It's like you are sitting on the bench and you are telling the manager that the right fielder isn't doing his job. It's not your place Dick". From that, I learned I need to be more tactful when working with the VP/SVP organization direct reports and senior management. I left MCI shortly after the WorldCom acquisition. The whole WorldCom mess had to have been hard on Jay. I am glad to read that Jay went on to become a Vice President in the successor organization. Jay Slocum IS one of the finest professionals I have ever worked with in MCI. He had a great sense of humor. A gentle giant of a person. My condolence to his family. They can take comfort knowing Jay's memory is highly regarded among his MCI colleagues.
John McGuire Jay was a great guy, enjoyed working with him in the 80’s as well. Witty and tack sharp.
Bob Lacy Rest In Peace Jay. All my prayers for his family
Gerard Badorrek Jay was such a pleasure to work with and always enjoyed his perspective whether it was at work or on the golf course after he retired. He really enjoyed his grandchildren and. his recent travels with Margaret. Truly a terrific person to everyone he touched. Very sad to hear this news , ,... I know he invested time back into his family. Rest in peace Jay.
Arthur D. Gionta Very sad!!!! My thoughts and prayers out to the family!

I knew Jay from MCI and then we had the chance to play a bit of golf together after he retired. He was highly regarded at MCI by all and provided a calming influence in the face of any challenge. I always enjoyed his perspective whether it was at work or on the golf course. Remember when he told me how excited he was about his trips with Margaret and the sights and time together. And then his perspective on why being a grandparent was so wonderful. He discussed the pros and cons of living in Florida with me at some point in his retirement, but once he had grandchildren, Jay's response was why would I ever want to leave them. Jay was a terrific person to everyone he touched....I have thought about him every day since I heard the news. Rest in peace Jay.

I'm so sorry to hear of Jay's illness and passing. I worked for Jay in the late 90s and early 2000s. Played golf with him a number of times after that and bumped into him at Dominion games. He was always positive and supportive, a steady leader, and very friendly and caring. He was smart to retire when he did and enjoy those years with his wife and family. Many condolences to the Slocum family and our prayers are with you and Jay. Rest in peace, Jay.

I met Jay our freshman year at Babson College. We became fast friends and over the years maintained contact in spite of my "left coast" location. Jay was always positive and upbeat with a touch of sarcasm. In the post script to our last email a few weeks ago he mentioned how fondly he remembered a Thanksgiving we spent together our sophomore year with my large and loud Italian family in Connecticut. That "P.S." from Jay was the essence of his spirit. ..while he was feeling lousy in his last days he took the time to share a memory we both cherished. I will miss him. Mike Giangreco

My younger brother Jay has been a man of action, both in sports, in business, and especially in service to his family and friends. We moved several times, due to our father's job changes, living in Braintree, Massachusetts for the first six years of his life, then eight years in Norwell, MA, nearly a year in Greenhills, Ohio, three years in Stamford, Connecticut, and finally in Annandale, Virginia. I remember playing basketball and baseball with our peers, and some scorching sessions of table tennis with Jay and our parents. We had wonderful summers on Cape Cod in the early 60's, and family vacations with our parents in Gettysburg, Washington DC, Florida, and along the East Coast.
In later years, after we'd gone our separate ways to start our own families, we periodically got together to visit, and to enjoy family reunions in Branson, Myrtle Beach, Amelia Island (our parents' 50th wedding anniversary) and Hilton Head Island. Jay hosted us with boat rides on the Chesapeake, and we stayed several times in the home that he and Pam had built in Sterling, VA.
My brother demonstrated a real aptitude for finance, and was able to provide his family with a pleasant lifestyle, and many happy times together. He is sorely missed by his loving family and the friends that he made through the years. Godspeed, brother Jay Slocum.
