Franchesca Kammerer

Obituary of Franchesca Faye Kammerer

Franchesca Faye Kammerer, 50, of Alexandria, Virginia passed away on December 26, 2019 in Fairfax, Virginia, following a year-long battle with ovarian cancer.

Friends and family are invited to gather in Reston, Virginia on February 22, 2020 to celebrate Franchesca’s life. Please email RememberingFranchesca@gmail.com to receive information.

Franchesca was born to Dianne and Harvey Kammerer in Green Bay, Wisconsin on February 28, 1969, and as part of a military family moved often during her early life, living in Florida, Wisconsin, Connecticut, and Virginia. She graduated with the Herndon High School class of 1987, where she was active in the band, National Honor Society, and president of the Italian club.

Franchesca attended Indiana University, graduating in 1991 with a dual major in Italian and Political Science, and then (after a brief stint in the private sector) began her work career with the U.S. Coast Guard. She started as an intern while in college and over the years worked her way up to Deputy Chief, International Acquisition Programs. While working, she attended the Global Master of Arts Program at the Fletcher School of International Affairs, Tufts University. Franchesca was well known by those with whom she worked and studied as an accomplished professional, excellent travel companion and dedicated student.

Perhaps her peripatetic early years inspired a wanderlust that led to a life filled with travel, both for work and pleasure. Franchesca traveled all over the globe, including traveling to Maine, Guam, Tokoyo, London, Paris, and Ukraine in just the few months before her death. She was an avid reader, a steadfast friend, and a legendary shopper and gift-giver. She was beautiful and brilliant and fearless, and her generous spirit and dry wit will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched.

Franchesca is survived by her parents, Harvey and Dianne Kammerer and her sister Ericka (Michael Lamoureux) Kammerer and their children Adrian, Nicole, and Genevieve, all of Reston, Virginia, as well as her beloved and well-spoiled cats Sigrid and Skye.
