Peffs has occupied a huge space in my life since August 1978. Our Classmate, USMA B-1 Companymate, teammate, and a true Brother, Mike was a major organizer, catalyst, and glue for our extraordinary and very close bond. He was the 'historian,' the 'director of the archives,' the most accurate resource for anything West Point, and especially B-1/Class of 1982. He was honorable, loyal, smart, informed, tough, resilient, committed, and devoted to his buddies, his team, West Point, the Army and the Nation. We will all miss him dearly; and as we gather in reunion over the years we have left on earth, we will remember him, toast him, laugh with him, and feel secure in the knowledge that, in true Orienteering fashion, Peffs has navigated and reconned the route, and is standing ready to receive the rest of us. THAT will be a B-1 reunion and party for the record book.....

I taught German at Lee High School in San Antonio, and Mike was in my class for multiple years.
In 1977 he traveled with fellow students and me and my husband to study German in Salzburg, Austria,
and we also visited other sites in Europe. My favorite and, at the time,worrisome memories
of Mike was his leaping over crevasses on a glacier in Austria! My heart aches for the loss of this
patriot and dear, sweet former student. Über allen Gipfeln ist Ruh...

My dear friend Mike, for over 25 years we shared books, interesting news and historical stories, and magazine articles that ranged a plethora of interests. And, boy did we laugh (and shudder) about so many items that were going on in the world. I miss him already because my dear buddy will not be on the other end of the phone (or text) where I can share a tidbit about a recent article and the interesting world around us.
