Obituary of William Norman McLeod III

William Norman McLeod III known as Norman McLeod of Great Falls, Virginia passed away unexpectantly while on a vacation with his wife Rachel.

Norman grew up in NW D.C. and McLean, Virginia. He graduated from Langley High School in 1969. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Haverford College in Pennsylvania. He went on to study Economic History at Jesus College, Oxford, England. It was in Oxford where he met his wife Rachel.

After completing his studies, he began working as a Market Researcher and Business Consultant in the printing industry. He retired from the industry in 2016. He continued to work as an independent consultant until his passing.

Norman was passionate about the military history of the American War of Independence as well as the Napoleonic wars. He was an active participant in tabletop wargames from these eras. He enjoyed visiting battlefields, particularly in the South. His other hobby was participating in the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad historical society. Norman was fiercely proud and knowledgeable of his Scottish as well as South Carolinian roots. He kept many family traditions alive.

Norman was a strong family man and loved to travel extensively with his wife of 36 years. Both he and Rachel had many adventures from their student days until the present. He was a loving and caring husband, father, mentor, and friend to many. He always had a strong wit and could make anyone laugh. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

His final resting place will be in the ancestral plot in Bishopville, South Carolina. He is survived by his wife Rachel McLeod along with their son William McLeod and daughter-in-law Hailey McLeod.

A memorial service will be held at Adams-Green funeral home on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 3:00 PM.
