Obituary of Brian Patrick Hughes
Brian P. Hughes, 47, of Ashburn, VA, passed away on February 3, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family after a five-year bout with appendiceal cancer, succumbing to almost 100 rounds of chemo. Born February 14, 1972 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and a graduate of Northeastern University. Survived by his wife, Victoria Clark Hughes, children Kate, Adam and Peter, parents, Alan and Nancy Hughes and brother Michael and wife Jennifer (Bergeron), all of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, as well as a gaggle of nieces and nephews.
Brian received numerous accolades for his exemplary work as a Foreign Service Officer while employed by the Federal Government. He served extensively throughout the Middle East and in war zones to include service in Afghanistan post 9/11.
Besides the love of his life, Viki, Brian loved all things Boston, the center of the universe - the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. As a devoted dad, he loved spending time with and attending his children’s sporting events such as basketball and golf. He loved golf although it rarely loved him back, enjoyed vacationing in Florida and Salt Creek and spending countless hours on the pier at the Chesapeake Bay with family.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00PM -8:00PM Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Adams-Green Funeral Home.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday February 8, 2020 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Ashburn, Virginia. There will be a viewing in the church narthex immediately preceding the funeral mass at St. Theresa’s starting at 10AM.
Brian will be remembered at a Mass at St. Julie Catholic church in Dartmouth, MA. Details to follow.
