Obituary of Betty McKinney Day

On Thursday, February 13, 2020, Betty McKinney Day passed away at the age of 94. She died of cardiac arrest while a patient at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Born in Arlington, Virginia, Betty graduated from Washington-Lee High School and worked briefly during WWII for her uncle, the Commissioner of the Revenue for Arlington County. She enjoyed dancing, roller skating and big band music. 

Betty met her husband, Charles Henry Day, at a USO dance. They married on October 16, 1946, and she soon turned in her dancing shoes and roller skates for her new passion of being a mother. Together, Betty and Charles raised ten children.

After their children were grown and her husband retired, Betty and Charles moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. She loved long walks on the beach, shelling and searching for shark’s teeth. Charles passed away in 2008.

Survivors include her children, Linda Souders of Frederick, MD, Norma Davis of Ashburn, VA, Michael Day of Accokeek, MD, Patricia Engler of Manassas, VA, Charles Dennis Day, Nancy Dawson and Timothy Day all of Port Charlotte, FL, Tracy Eicher of Sterling, VA, Kerry Day of Bolivar, WV, and Jeffrey Day of Reston, VA, 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
