Dear Dan & family,
Corey told me about your father's passing. I am so sorry to hear this news and my heart and prayers go out to you all.
Roger thought the world of your Dad and it always made his day whenever the two of you would stop by the camper to chat a bit. Corey passed on the condolences expressed to me for Roger also and I wanted to thank you. That means a lot to me.
I hope your wonderful memories sustain you as mine do me. It's not easy I know. I LOVE the photos you have shared of Paul as they express the good-hearted, fun-loving person he was.

Paul Beckett, a name from the past. I first met him when I worked at Horn Motors, in the 80's. He was a pleasure to wait on. Always a hand shake and a greeting! Often talked of gardening and fishing with him. I look forward to seeing him again some day! Rest in Peace Paul!

I did not know my Uncle Paul. We used to email occasionally and he called me one time. He was the only uncle I had that did not moved to Texas. I am sure of one thing. He was met with a host of Brothers and Sisters waiting to receive him. he was the last of his original brothers and Sisters. I am sorry I will never get to meet him or hear his stories. I pray for his family and ask God to ease their pain and his blessing on them. His memory and legacy will live on in the people his life touched. See You later Uncle Paul.

Since I had the unpleasant experience of losing my father at the age of one, my uncle Paul was like a father to me, or maybe a BIG BIG BROTHER. I remember when he went off to the Army, he promised to give me a dollar when he returned. After serving his country and returning home, the first thing he did when he saw me again was to reach in his pocket and pull out that dollar. Uncle Paul used to throw baseball with me and take me to ballgames. So he had been a big factor in furthering my interest in the sport which later resulted in paying for my college education and having a successful baseball career. As a child, when we lived in a poor section of Huntington, playing marbles was the popular thing to do. Since I was just learning and couldn't keep up with the better players in the neighborhood, I one day lost nearly all my marbles to those who were more highly skilled. When Uncle Paul learned of this, he took what was left in my marble bag and went to challenge the older boys who had won my marbles. At the end of the competition, WOW, DID I HAVE A SURPLUS OF MARBLES!! It took one shot for Uncle Paul to stick dead in the middle of the ring, and he ended up cleaning out the entire ring!! Another experience which I'll never forget was when my birthday rolled around and Uncle Paul didn't have the money to get me a birthday present. So what did he do? Well, he knew that I had a bicycle that had a flat tire. So he takes the good inter tube off one of the tires of my sister's bicycle and replaces my flat tire with her good tire!! These are just some of the things I remember as a child while having my Uncle Paul as a best friend and BIG BROTHER model. He took us fishing, we went on trips together, played football, and by the way, he used to use me as a punching bag to toughen me up (He was a boxer in the Army). Later in life we didn't see each other that often, since we had our separate lives to live. But when we did, I certainly enjoyed reuniting with him and talking about old times. After God had changed my life completely and began to study for the ministry, on one occasion when Uncle Paul had come to town to visit, I remember him asking me, "Carl, what was it that turned your life around?" I responded by saying, "I was born again when I trusted Christ as my Savior, and haven't been the same ever since." He told me later that his father (Pa Pa Beckett) wouldn't allow the kids to go to Church on Sundays, but make them stay home on the weekends and work. However, later on when we sometimes would communicate by way of email, I noticed a spiritual side of Uncle Paul that I hadn't seen before, as he would mention Jesus and God in his correspondence. I realized that the question he had asked me that day as to what had changed me was a curiosity that was really a sign that deep inside he had a love for God. And I truly believe that this love had been sown in his heart as he was growing up. In fact, my mother told me that she had seen my grandfather (Pa Pa Beckett) on his knees praying just before retiring for the night. I remember when Pa Pa was in the hospital approaching the end of his life, I asked him if he knew Jesus, he bowed his head with tears in his eyes and said, "What else is there to live for?" So in the hearts of my mother, my aunts, and my uncles (seven Beckett kids) there had been sown godly seed along the way in their Beckett upbringing which led to several of them giving their lives to Christ. I DEARLY LOVED MY UNCLE PAUL, AND I'LL ALWAYS HOLD THE MEMORIES OF HIM CLOSE TO MY HEART. HE WAS MY UNCLE, A BIG BROTHER, AND A GREAT FRIEND!!
