Obituary of Leonard Elliott Mathey Jr.
LEONARD ELLIOTT MATHEY, JR.
1986-2020
Leonard Elliott Mathey, Jr, (“Lenny”), of Fairfax, Virginia, died tragically on February 27, 2020 after being struck by a car in a pedestrian fatality. He was born on September 26, 1986 in Arlington Virginia. Lenny is survived by parents, Leonard and Rosellen Mathey, sister Alison Lambeth (Christopher), niece, Caroline Lambeth, and numerous Mathey and Launi aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by grandparents Leonard and Eileen Mathey, and Dr. Anthony and Mary Launi.
Lenny was a wonderful, caring, loving and loyal son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a graduate of George Mason University. He loved and thrived at his job as stagehand in the technical theater industry. Lenny lived his Christian faith, always showing love, kindness and compassion toward others. He often volunteered with the Lamb Center, Habitat for Humanity and Work Camp. Lenny was an active member in the 5pm contemporary band at St. John Neumann for almost two decades as a guitar player. He loved surfing in the Outer Banks, had a passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and was an avid movie buff. Lenny shined around his niece, as a dedicated and loving godfather. His love and dedication to his family and friends was endless.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday March 5, 2020, with a visitation at 10:00am and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church located at 11900 Lawyers Road, Reston, VA 20191. Internment will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park located at 9900 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032. A reception will follow back at St. John Neuman Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Neumann Catholic Church of Reston, Virginia, or the Lamb Center of Fairfax, Virginia.
