Obituary of Angela Lee Smith Asante

On March 5, 2020, Heaven opened its Gates and God welcomed our beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend, Angela Lee Smith Asante.  Angie was born on June 18th, 1983, in Leesburg Virginia.  She spent her youth growing up among lots of loving family in Great Falls, Virginia.  She was baptized, and married at the Great Falls United Methodist Church.  Angie and Kofi were married in June of 2010 and they shared almost 10 years of a beautiful happy married life together.  Family was the center of her world.  Angie and Kofi have been blessed with three beautiful children;  Richard Anthony, Chelsea Elise and Theodore Henry.

Angie attended Forestville Elementary School and Langley High School.  While attending Virginia Tech, she met the love of her life, Kofi.  She graduated from Virginia Tech’s Pamplin School of Business, Summa Cum Laude with a major in Business Management and a minor in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology Management.  She started working at Deloitte & Touché in 2005 and has continued as Senior Manager providing Risk and Financial Advisory services to many clients in the Greater Washington Practice.  In addition to her client service roles, Angie supported various high-profile firm initiatives, including serving as the Chief of Staff for RFA’s Regional Leader, Business Risk Leader and the US Regulatory Affairs Leader.  Angie received the 2014 Rising Star Award from the Women’s Bond Club, an influential community of women leaders dedicated to the personal and professional development of women in financial services.

Angie volunteered her time to our Church as a Youth Leader and later as Church Treasurer.  She has worked with the local March of Dimes Auction Committee, fundraising for babies.

Angie was preceded in death and was greeted in Heaven by many great-grandparents as well as both of her Grandfathers, Sterie Theodore (Ted) Beza and F. Channing (Chan) Smith.  She is survived by many family members who miss her dearly:  her Parents Richard and Josila Smith; her Husband Kofi Asante; her Children, Richard, Chelsea and Teddy; her Sister, Kristin Elise Goodwin (Kris) and niece Kora; her Grandmothers Elise (Elleke) Beza and Joan Presgrave Smith; as well as many well-loved Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, family members and friends.

Angie’s greatest joy in life was her family.  She always wanted a house full of children, and God blessed them with three sweet kids.  She worked hard to balance family, faith and career, always knowing what was most important.  She was our family planner and organizer, never hesitating to get ‘on task’!  In all aspects of life she was authentic, true to her heart, and she never hesitated to tell you exactly what she thought!    She graced us with wit, wisdom, encouragement, enthusiasm and unconditional love.

Her beauty, strength, grace and love welcomed so many into her life.  Her spirit and enthusiasm for life were contagious.  Her heroic battle with Breast Cancer was a force to be reckoned with.  Angie will be greatly missed; however, her impact on her family, friends, coworkers and clients will shine on through those that she has touched.   Although her feet were small, she leaves very big shoes to fill.   Her spirit and devotion to her faith strengthen and guide us in this time of sorrow.

God has welcomed a small, feisty Angel with a heart of gold and big wings into his Kingdom.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2020 at Adams Green Funeral Home.

Education is very important to Angie.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in honor of Angie be made to the Asante Children Education Fund, care of Richard Smith, 11320 Fairfax Drive, Great Falls, Virginia 22066.
