Although I never had the opportunity to meet Helen in person, I would telephone her during those times in various years when I was available for substitute work. She was a very dedicated member of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. She will be missed. RIP, Helen,and God bless.

I finally met Helen in person after moving to Northern Virginia, having spoken with her via phone about AGO(American Guild of Organists) matters back when I lived in Richmond. She was a lovely person, who also knew the area and local organ scene quite well, having lived here for some time. But I am most grateful for the way she stepped in for me at the last minute at my church in Vienna on Easter Sunday morning after I fell and broke my arm! The accident happened on Saturday afternoon, after a great rehearsal with choir and brass ensemble.I was making calls to people I knew from the emergency room to see if I could find anyone who would be available to help out. Helen didn’t hesitate and said immediately that she was able to do the service. I am forever grateful for her kindness and willingness to help. Really, that’s the kind of person she was! I knew Helen briefly in 1968-1969, when she was a part-time student (and I was a full-time student) at what was then the College of Church Musicians at Washington Cathedral. She was an intelligent, bright student and a warm-hearted, thoughtful person. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a joy of know. Robert Savage
