Bill was a wonderful gentleman who will be missed greatly.. He contributed substantially to the security of our country in his professional life. I knew him best after his retirement when we were members of an Investment Club. One of the joys of our monthly meetings was to see Bill and to hear his insights on investing and life. He was a generous man -- full of quiet humor, grace, and wisdom -- who inspired us all.

Although we were both in the Intelligence Community, Bill and I first met when he joined an investment club. His investment knowledge quickly made him one of the club’s most valued members. Bill was a true gentleman whose warmth, graciousness and gentle humor made him a very special person. His varied interests made him an interesting and delightful person to be with. He will be missed. Condolences and prayers for his family.

We shared vigil masses, we built a train layout for the church, and we enjoyed meals after mass. He will live forever in my mind and heart.

What an incredible shock! While we worked in the some field, I didn't get to know Bill until joining an investment club of which he was President. Bill was a true gentleman, a great patriot and quickly became a good friend. I especially enjoyed have good natured political discussion. He will be sorely missed.

I worked with Bill for several years at the CIA and valued that experience. As a person, he was good, kind and friendly. As a lawyer, he knew the business and always recognized the ethical obligations of his profession. Even when he couldn't find an historical precedent or statutory justification for doing the right thing, he would plow straight ahead and do what he believed was right. And he would stand behind it. I remember one of his legal opinions at the CIA where he was arguing for the Agency to do what he believed was right. Although he could find few legal justifications for his recommended course of action, he knew it was the right thing to do and cited as authority the unwritten "Common Law of the Spy Business." Everyone in the Agency knew there was no such thing, and we all knew that it was Bill's way of saying that it was just the right thing to do. We all appreciated Bill's surface "gruffness", knowing that down deep he was a great friend with a gentle wit and a warm smile. Somewhere in heaven there's an angel asking Bill for advice at this very minute. And it will be great advice. We miss you already, Bill.
