William was one of my favorite customers at Public Storage. Whenever he’d walk into my office, he always lit up the room! As soon as he saw me, it was joke time, and I couldn’t wait to hear it. When his daughter let me know of his passing, I broke down into tears. This man reminded me of my dad who I lost last year due to cancer. I will forever miss you William, this is really a hard pill to swallow!

The Harmon family was saddened by this news. Bill was such a great guy and wonderful friend to all my family. We have know Bill for years and years and while he was rough on the outside his heart was made of gold. He would have done anything for you. I remember when our kids were learning to drive old pieces of cars and would go to him to fixed it and they would come back and say: "he was the best mechanic around!" and he was! Old school no computers but the BEST! The crab feasts at fathers day was fantastic and Bill always made sure ALL his guests got plenty to eat, in fact that is exactly what he asked when we left. There are so many heartful memories that we have and cherish! Sweet Bill will be missed by our family and so many others. He really was a gem in the rough. Rest in Peace Bill.

Bill took care of our cars for years, vetted a couple of potential purchases for us, and went from "excellent mechanic" to friend over the many years we dealt with him. He will be missed.

We always thought Bill was terrific--so likeable--and we were grateful that we could rely on him to do an excellent job fixing our cars. When we would visit Barbara at Sunrise she would often say happily how Bill came over every Sunday. May the angels take you into paradise, may the martyrs welcome you on your way, and lead you to the holy city, Jerusalem.

Carol and I remember Bill for the way he helped us take care of our cars and that great crab fest in June. We remember when the creek overflowed and flooded his shop in town and he moved over to the shop off Sterling Road. We could always count on him for repair advice. And what a great and colorful personality. So glad we had the opportunity to know him! Sheridan and Carol Kramer

Got my dream car and ran her over to Bill- he put his wonderful hands all over her and made her what she is today. Bill was not only a great mechanic, but a friend. You will be missed and so will your crazy jokes that made YOU laugh telling them.
May your family find peace knowing you touched so many of us throughout your life. Rest easy now, your journey is complete my friend.

My Uncle Bill was one of my favorite people. He was the kind of man they didn't make anymore. I admired him in so many ways and mostly the way he loved my Aunt Patty. He would always tell me how much he loved his girls and I knew that they were his world. My Uncle Bill will truly be miss. I sent him a text message on Tuesday and it still sits delivered but unread. I'd like to think he had the chance to read it. I loved him dearly. I know he has found peace he is now with his beautiful bride.
love you always

We have known Bill for over 45 years when we moved to Herndon and I was looking for a mechanic to work on my car. I was told by someone that a guy named Bill Harding was one of the best in the area. I liked him when I first met him, and over the years we became good friends. After I retired, I had more time to stop by the shop and spend some time with Bill and Robbie. While I learned a little bit about engines, I had a better time listening to Bill tell about his experiences with customers and other things that happened around the shop. Some of it was really hilarious, not just at the shop, but also what happened around Herndon as well. He never complained when Joan sent him a pineapple upside down cake or cupcakes. Also, the annual crab feast was enjoyed by everyone!
We feel like we have not only lost a good friend, but a person who cared about other people.
Our condolences to the family in their loss of a Father, husband, and someone who enjoyed life and being around people. Bill, rest in peace my friend.

I met Bill close to 50 years ago when I worked for his mother at Harding Hall. Any time I saw him, he was dressed in working man clothes which obviously he continued for 50+ years. When I started taking my cars to him and learned right away he was an honest mechanic which was hard to find. He always took time to talk on the phone when I called and could pretty much diagnose the problem over the phone. I know he gave me a fair price and that the work was done correctly. He was delightful to talk to and I always enjoyed it. I used to fuss with him because I could never read his writing on the service order and he would have to explain to me what he had done. He would fuss right back at me! His conversations were always "colorful" and I enjoyed them all. We talked a great deal about his mother. I know he was very attentive to her and spent many mornings with her. He was a marvelous son. I only attended his famous crab fest once and was amazed to see all the friends he had made over the years. I know he was in pain much of his later life and was truly heartbroken about losing his Patty. His whole family meant so much to him. He will be missed and now he is at peace. He certainly was one of the most unforgettable people I ever met. He will be missed.

My condolences to the family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I have so many fond memories of Bill from when I was young. Cathy and I had so many sleepovers between Our houses in our little corner of Herndon. We would ride our bikes to his shop in the summer, and he was always smiling and happy to see us. We spent a lot of time at his Mom Barbra Harding’s house also. He was a lot of fun. Rest In Peace, Bill. May you find comfort in the arms of the Lord.

I had the good fortune to have known Bill for 55+ years. He work on my vehicles & Triumph as well as many in my family. Bill was always willing to stop what he was doing to look at your problem. When I bought my first Triumph, I didn't realize that the bolts were of "British Whitworth" thread. I was attempting to use American then metric wrenches. He got a big laugh out of it. And never let me live it down! Often when I'd stop in to chat at his shop, he's always be sure to ask as I left, "you still got that set of Whitworths"? Bill was an honest and fair person. He will be missed by many. But he's now with his parents and his beloved wife. RIP old buddy! Thanks for all your help!

I met Bill years ago when I followed up on a friend`s recommendation that I consult Bill as he was “an honest mechanic who really knows his stuff”.
Since our first meeting, I`ve had Bill perform diagnoses and make repairs on my personal vehicles and build engines for my project cars. Many of those engines and some of those vehicles were classic vehicles – projects for which expertise and experience I`d found hard to find before finding Bill. From this customer relationship, I found Bill to be an expert in “the classics”; he shared his encyclopedic knowledge of the Ford engines of the `60`s garnered from his tenure as a mechanic at a dealership in Seven Corners.
From this customer relationship, I discovered him to be unselfish. On several occasions, after diagnosing a vexing and intermittent problem that I`d been experiencing on my daily driver; Bill told me what the problem was and explained the cause. He detailed what needed to be done and advised that he could make the repair but I was competent enough to make the repair myself. His first and paramount concern was the customer.
I consulted Bill about several other problems that I experienced on another of my vehicles. On several occasions, Bill stopped work on a repair and would perform a diagnosis on the spot to order the requisite parts in time for delivery the next morning so as to effect the repair the next day; thereby minimizing my downtime. Again, he put the customer first.
These dealings with Bill as his customer quickly fostered a friendship and afforded me an opportunity to get to know him well.
From these dealings, I discovered an honest and empathetic man and one who had an enviable ability to understand the complexities of the modern automobile. None of my automobile problems exceeded Bill`s abilities. I learned much from watching him and having him explain what he was doing and why to discover the source of the problem.
Another of Bill`s endearing traits was his passion for life and sense of humor that sprang from his living life to the fullest. On numerous occasions, I would stop by his shop just before close to just “shoot the breeze”. He shared many entertaining life experiences and some tribulations.
I knew that Bill's star shined brightly, but I had no idea that he had so many friends until I attended one of his legendary Crab Fests on Father`s . While these events were fun food fests, they were also homages to a much loved and highly respected member of the community.
I feel blessed to have known and to have spent time with Bill. My life is richer from my association with him. I have several classic Fords in my garage that Bill brought back to life. Going forward, when I sit in the driver`s seat of these classics, I will remember that other true classic – Bill Harding.
Thank you Bill, for being my friend.

Bill was such a nice man! Like with you Charlie there were times when he told me what needed to be done on my vehicle and that I was capable of doing it myself. If I didn’t have the proper tools he would offer to lend me his!!! Who does this other than Bill Harding? You hit the nail square on its head: Bill really was a TRUE CLASSIC!
