Obituary of Emily M. Lasik

Emily Mary Lasik (88) passed away peacefully early Easter morning on April 12, 2020. She was in the presence of her loving husband Lawrence (Larry) Frank Lasik at their home at Arbor Terrace of Herndon in Herndon, Virginia.  Emily was born on July 20, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio to Walter and Caroline (Derbin) Darmon.

Emily married Larry on February 6,1960 in Cleveland, Ohio where they began raising a family.  They left Cleveland, Ohio to move to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and finally settled in Sterling, Virginia in 1976.  Together they had six children, Mike Lasik (Linda), Dan Lasik (Nancy), Tom Lasik (Heather), Judy Ryan (Dave), Margie Gay (Vince) and Marie. Emily was always a supporter of Park View High School where her children participated in sports, school activities and graduated before five of them earned degrees from Virginia Tech. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in sporting events and musicals including events at Briar Woods, Potomac Falls and Herndon High Schools.  She was often out and about and loved playing Bingo sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. 

Although she was a lady from modest means, through her strong Catholic faith she passed along the greatest of life’s lessons: Be thankful to our good Lord, put others first and share your love.  Emily was a kind, loving and caring person to all she encountered.  Perhaps her greatest gift and legacy is her loving family.

Emily was predeceased by her daughter, Marie Ann, two sisters, Rose Marie and Lillian Mozina (Bill), and her two brothers Walter Darmon Jr, and Mitchell Darmon (Irene). She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, her five children and their spouses, her youngest sister Carol Gomula (Walter),15 nieces and nephews, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Emily’s radiant smile and tender love will be missed by all.

A private Catholic Prayer Service presided over by St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will be held on Friday, April17, 2020 at Adams Green Funeral Home in Herndon, Virginia. Interment will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Virginia. Unfortunately services are closed to non-immediate family members due to Covid19. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Emily Lasik. stjude.org
