Matthew and Tiffany -
Thank you so much, for including me. Matt and I last connected, during Bill’s transition to the states from NZ; at that time, I was so happy for them both to have one another closer. Matt, there can be no doubt about how grateful Bill was for your love and kindness in his last year. He loved you and Tiffany more than anything else on the planet.
As Bill and I were just getting to know one another, I can remember him describing both of you to me - Matthew, with his head of curls from infancy and Tiffany, his daughter with gorgeous ringlets for locks, who could recite every train stop on her way to school and back in England. One night, while we were out to dinner, he explained to me that his priorities had starkly shifted over the years. Early on, his career had been his number one focus - with marriage and children next. But he wanted me to know that equation had, since, flipped and, as we considered marriage, not only would it be a “package deal”, but that his children would always be first in his heart. As parents ourselves now, we understand just how deep that kind of love is.
You both are Bill’s living legacy - smart, good looking and successful, just as he was. Matt, when we shared the day together in Denver recently, there were times when I felt I had time-traveled backwards and was looking at your dad in you, when he was also in his 40s. I will always remember Bill as deeply contemplative, principle-driven and spiritual… but not in a perfunctory way. His relationships with God and the Church were unique, because there were things he found difficult to reconcile between the two… and those were the things I loved about him. I have a book in my secretary desk here on The Apostle’s Creed - given to me by the minister at the Ithan Episcopal Church in Radnor. Bill had refused to say the Creed in our marriage ceremony because he didn’t believe in one particular line of the Creed. In turn, the minister refused to marry us, handed me the book and showed us the door. What mattered to Bill was his own authentic relationship with God - in his own words and on his own terms - as it should be.
And that will always be, perhaps, the hallmark that comes to mind when I remember Bill English and celebrate him today - his authenticity. He could be rugged one moment and so gentle at another. He could be brutally honest, brilliantly clever, enviably quick-witted and generously loving… complicated, but very real nonetheless.
We once decided to read the Bible together, front to back, and he shared with me that this was his favorite verse, from the Book of Micah 6:8 - "And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?" When the end arrived, I am absolutely confident that this verse is exactly what Bill discovered. Bill English: servant for justice, lover of mercy, humble man - may you rest in peace knowing that you were so special to so many.
Love,
Victoria

I was very sad to hear about Bill's passing in America.
Bill, the husband of a friend I met in New Zealand, was kind and caring.
I remember that Bill gave the fruits from the Feijoa farm to his neighbors and I also ate deliciously.
He made a delicious sandwich to say thank you that I fixed his computer.
I want to say thank you for your kindness and consideration again.
Bill was a good neighbor and a good friend in New Zealand.
You will remain a good memory in our hearts.

I am so saddened to hear about Uncle Bill's passing. When I became a member of the English family, Uncle Bill welcomed me with open arms. His warmth and love for family was evident in how he always kept in contact with us even from far away. Uncle Bill came to our wedding in Poland from New Zealand in 2007, which meant so much to us. In 2008, David and I were lucky to visit Uncle Bill in New Zealand and experience his life there, and yes, we visited the feijoa farm! It was definitely the most amazing place we have ever been and will always cherish those memories. Most recently, we were so delighted when Uncle Bill moved back to the US to live with Matt. That meant we got to see him regularly and to host him at our home for Thanksgiving. My love and thoughts go out to Matt and Tiffany and their families.

We always looked forward to his visits in the fall. It was lots of fun to take him shopping for groceries and watch him cook some of his favorite dishes. We especially enjoyed Mexican food and margarita's together. We know he made many special trips to NY to see us and he always seemed to enjoy spending time with his great-nieces and nephews! We will miss him and all the stories he use to tell!
With our sincere condolences,
The Kiernan and English Families

So very sad to hear of Bill's death. We remember so fondly the years we spent with him, his then wife Peg, Russ and Maureen Smith "hanging out" together in Southern California in the 1970's. He was so full of life and such an interesting person. In 1977, we spent time with him and Peg in England, at their cottage in Sussex when we were coming back to the US from two years in Iran. He and I use to hotly debate the Women's Movement in the early seventies. We also had loads of fun together helping the Smith's build their concrete sailboat in Ventura, California. Sadly, the Smiths have passed also.
Unfortunately, we lost touch with him over the past decades, but knew he had moved from Pennsylvania to New Zealand. Condolences to Tiffany and Matthew (don't know if they remember us, but Matthew and our son John were born the same year) and the rest of his family. What a fabulous person he was for them and all of us who called him "friend" over the years.

I am very previleged to be close to him last 2 decades of his life.
He has been open minded to people from all cultures.
Bill has been willing to share his knowledge and experience with people specially
strangers to Western culture and languages.
It is well known to friends Bill invited people to Christmas dinner every year for long years.
Through Bill we all friends from Korea ,China and India tasted real Christmas spirit with him.
We all admired his cook and generosity.
Singing, eating, laughing...
Bill has been a good role modeling for children of my friend and one of them following his foot steps at Price WaterHouseCooper now.
They are very proud of Bill.
Bill has been proud of them too.
I shared time with him doing swimming at the beach or indoor pool.
We were invited for sailing by friends and Bill loved water very much.
We used to enjoy going to the concert a lot, we loved classical music as well as church music.
Singing in the choir was one of his joy.
He has been very faithful to God and whenever I dont go to church for reasons he used to say "I will pray very hard for you".
Bill has been a man of perseverance.
He has been working very hard for the best and been doing his best in every matter.
He has been encouraging me to grow better and more mature emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Bill has been known loving and caring person.
He never missed sending greeting card to familly and concerned future of his children and grand children a lot.
He loved the life and he didnt waste it.
Every breath he thanked to God.
God bless him a lot.
Friends from New Zealand miss you enormously.
They say good bye.
Thank you Bill my love for your love.
I will miss you very much.
Have a good rest with God till we meet again.

Thank you Tiffany & Matthew for including me. I am so sorry to hear of your dear father’s passing. We worked together in Philadelphia when I was the Manager of govt affairs at the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Bill was the Chairman of our Municipal Affairs Cte. He led the group (Mini Grace Commission) effort to create efficiencies and streamline processes in local govt. He was a natural leader, charming, charismatic, funny, wicked smart and a truly wonderful mentor. I loved working with Bill English. I only have fond memories of your dear father. God rest his precious generous loving soul.
