Catherine and I were next-door neighbors for several years at the condo in Reston. Although she was of my mother's generation, she and I became friends. She had/has a very sweet soul and I enjoyed seeing her art and chatting about the latest ongoings. Her calm, creative, kind, smart, beautiful, strong, caring, supportive, understanding essence is being missed. I am thankful to have had her in my life and I enjoyed every minute that we spent together. May her loving spirit carry on in the hearts of all who knew her.

I met Catherine when I started working at Reston Children’s Center. She always brought her calm and quiet manner to all her interactions with children and her fellow teachers. She brought her love of art and her artistic abilities to her teaching and I always admired her art projects and her ability to quickly sketch the block houses and castles children were building. She would copy the sketch and give them to the children, creating a record and memory of their cooperative activity.
After we retired, we enjoyed meeting for lunch and visiting local art galleries. We talked about current affairs, books we were reading, movies watched and shared ideas for our Netflix queue.
My sincere condolences to all of her family. She was a wonderful friend and a great lady!

My grandfather brought Catherine Anne and I together. Fifth or fourth graders then, we became fast friends. Paper dolls, sharing favorite books (I remember ‘Caddie Woodlawn’ for one) and drawing, Sunday school, and often, Sunday breakfast at her house on 15th Street. We played on the broad steps of the Masonic Temple on 16th Street and at my house on Swann Street. Years passed—before we found ourselves in the same orbit again, at Howard, both of us art majors. More years passed before we were to reunite to my great joy, when I returned to DC. Catherine Anne’s voice, her chuckles, her smile, still the same, her love of art and art making very much alive. Though we only saw each other twice since I got back our long, comfortable conversations ranging over the what’s, why’s, who’s, how’s and times we’d been together and apart, were
so sweetly evocative of something I cannot find the word for. Catherine Anne, my oldest, dearest friend.

I love this photo of Catherine. I will miss her so much: her bright, ready smile, her strength, perseverance, and deep faith. All the happy "red" things - everywhere in her house! Yes lots of red, but also lots of every other color. Baskets of colored pencils, pens, pencils, the many greeting cards that came her way, return addresses carefully cut out and saved, many notes, all in her beautiful handwriting, photographs, teacups and china - all indicative of a lived in gratitude, with faith and great love for her family, friends, and God. Rest in peace, Catherine.
