I loved working with Cobina at Giant Food. She was a kind, gentle happy person that everyone liked to be around. She loved those granddaughters of hers. I just saw her name in the "In Memoriam" section of the Post this morning. I'll say a prayer for her. Elizabeth Barbee

I loved her spaghetti!! When she knew I was coming over she’d make it. As a kid, I loved going over to the Adams house and I loved when everyone would converge at Granny’s house on Sunday’s or on a weekend to eat, make the famous bread and pound cake!! I loved being with all of you and it seemed like we played, fought and then played more for days. I have too many great memories of her and family time to list here. Those were truly the good old days! Aunt Cabina was one of the kindest people and I loved her sassy attitude and how she’d give me a hard time in fun and oh my her laugh was the best!!!! I can still hear it. She’s left a great legacy in her children and grandchildren. She’ll be missed. We’re gonna donate to the St Judes Children’s fund she chose. I wish I could hug all of you guys❤️ Love you. Roddy and Family

What a lovely lady! I always felt happier after having had a chat with Cobina … (whether at the pharmacy counter or in our little neighborhood). I’m so grateful that I had the privilege of knowing her sweetness 30 years now.

Mom was the kindest, most generous, and loving person I will ever know. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. Her family was always her priority. I have no idea how she managed it, but she always got all five us to our sporting, dance, and scouting events. She was a coach and den mother. She never missed a game or recital, and always made us feel like were special. She was never too busy to help us with our homework or chaperone a school trip. As we grew into adults, she continued to support us and be there for all the important events in our lives offer us her advice. She still made us feel special every day. She always loved to tell the story of how she met our father. It was her first day of work at Albert’s Hair Salon in Fairfax. Her father was driving her to work. As they pulled into the shopping center, he told her “I know why you want to come all the way to Fairfax to work. Manassas boys aren’t good enough for you. You’re looking for a husband.” Just then, she spotted the most handsome man she had ever seen. He was standing with his back leaning against the front wall of Adams Paint and Wallpaper. He had one foot up against the wall, a cigarette in one hand and the other hand in his pocket. She told her father, “You’re right. And, that’s the man I’m going to marry right there!” Over 40 years later my father used to pick her up from work at Giant and always had the song “Keeper of the Stars” playing. He loved to sing it to her. It was their song. I remember how she cared for our elderly neighbor across the street. It didn’t matter what the hour was, if Mrs. Steele needed help or just someone to share a slice of pie with and discuss the bible, mom was right there for her. She took great care of my grandparents (her in-laws) when they were sick, needed help with house cleaning, grocery shopping, or simply needed some company. She never complained, or seemed to mind at all the time she spent taking care of others. She had a special way with children. She always said she love hearing neighborhood kids playing and laughing outside. Children seemed to just be drawn to her. Nothing made her happier than being around kids. Especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life. She was so proud of each of them. She had the best sense of humor and a great laugh. She would laugh uncontrollably at the silliest things and everyone around her would have to laugh too. I remember as a kid all of us settling into bed at night. We would do the Walton style good nights and someone would finally shout “Goodnight John Boy”. Then just when all was quiet, my father would make some small sound or gesture to remind her of her earlier fit of laughter and she would start her uncontrollable laughing all over again. We so often fell asleep to the sound of our mother laughing. If she wasn’t laughing she was singing. She could keep us entertained for hours with her beautiful voice. It didn’t matter to us if she sang nursery rhymes, church hymns, or Patsy Cline. We just loved to listen to her. She had a strong faith in God, and was a devout Catholic. She prayed the rosary regularly. Her beliefs never wavered or faltered based on what those around her, even her family, may have believed. She believed in treating everyone with kindness and compassion, but never abandoned in her beliefs to accommodate theirs. She taught us the importance of working hard. Whether at work, school, or around the house, always do your best work. She taught us to be kind and generous to others. She taught us the importance of faith. She taught us the importance of forgiveness, even when the other party has not asked for it. Mom, I will always miss your beautiful voice, the comforting touch of your hand, and your reassuring smile. I’ve heard it said that it is inevitable that all women eventually turn into their mothers. Well, nothing would make me prouder than to be like you.

What better day than, Mother's Day, for me to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Cobina Sue Adams. In January 1970, I was blessed when Cobina came into my life. She was to become the daytime mother for my daughter. I was a single, working mother and needed help, God sent me Cobina. That day DeeAnn and I became a part of the Cobina family, and oh what an honor. Cobina was a lady, lovely and beautiful, inside and out and her smile, well, it could light up the room. Memories, I have many and they will stay in my heart forever. Cobina, thank you for being part of my life..... Until we meet again Frieda Schools Wolfe
