If ever there was a man who you could call cute, it was Papa. Dr. Indra Gupta was not just an accomplished scientist and sweetheart of a family man, but he was always looking for a good joke, a good movie or a good meal that he could share with family, neighbors, friends old and new, young and old, coming or going. He was warm, welcoming and positive. He loved silly cliches like “laughter is the best medicine” or “the glass is half-full” and tried to live by those he found meaningful and could apply to his daily life. He wrote little notes to himself all the time to help him remember what is important or funny. He always wanted to hear a joke, made all the more funny when you had to explain it to him. He could laugh at himself as well as laugh with you while also making you laugh. And he liked to tell a joke over and over again while laughing as though it was the first time he heard it. I will always remember him asking if I have tried a certain variety of mango and if I hadn’t, he would try to get some for our next visit. That was papa. We were all touched by his gentle, innocent, and kind nature. Papa, may you rest in peace and love and may you continue to enjoy a good dessert, a good laugh with good company. We are grateful to you for leaving us with so much cheer and love.
Vivek Jain

Reading about Shelly's father's accomplishments in life while keeping humble shows his many positive contributions to this planet. He left behind a legacy of good and kindness. It is no wonder why there is such sadness now that he is gone, but the mere memory of him will warm the hearts all those who knew him forever.

In Indra Gupta’s passing away we have lost not only a dear relative, my brother in law, but also a true friend. Dr. Indra Gupta was a brilliant scholar, an acclaimed scientist, and a great humanitarian. He had great intellectual curiosity and was a voracious reader. During our tour of Peru he assiduously read Da Vinci Code in the tour bus between stops and shared highlights with me. He continued seismological research on his laptop even in the nursing home. He was also a loving family man, devoted to his wife of 61 years, his four lovely daughters, grand children, and other family members. He had a ready sense of humor, always smiling and ready with santa banta and other jokes. He was fond of Indian music and movies, enjoyed good food and conversation in the company of friends. He was a keen nature lover and accomplished table tennis player. We have a deep sense of loss in his passing away. May his noble soul rest in peace and may God grant forbearance to his loved ones.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of dear Gupta Uncle. As neighbors since 2001, we met often and kept an eye on each other over the years. He was so kind to our family and was always talking about the girls (Monika, Anjali, Pamela, and Shelly). He and aunty were always smiling and always together. We miss them. They are very lucky to have spent 61 years together, a claim very few are privileged to make. Uncle’s kindness and sweet smile will never be forgotten. Our sincerest condolences to Sukarma aunty, Monika, Anjali, Pamela, Shelly, and the entire extended family. His spirit lives on in each of you. - Michael, Aarti, Natasha, Shaan, Deven, and Ashwin.

I will always remember Uncle's passion for seismic geology and the times we were able to share working out problems. I remember vividly the time he, my father and I worked out the length of a film based on the thickness. We were able to compute the length (and then, the run time) of the film by measuring the density and then computing the sum of circumferences of concentric circles. I later worked out the definite line integral formula, and the concentric circle estimate was surprisingly close. He helped to inspire in me a love of the practical side of engineering and attacking a problem from many angles. I still recall that time whenever I am presented with what appears to be an intractable problem.

So sad to hear the sudden demise of Dr. Indra Gupta. I knew him since 1957 when my sister got married to his elder brother. He was inspirational to me for coming to U.S. When he came to America, I was in high school since then I decided to come to U.S.
We saw Indra Ji last around end of Feb. 2020 to inform him about his brother's death. He was in good spirit and was having lunch at that time. So sad both brothers died within 3 months. They both were very close to each other.
May god give peace to his departed soul and courage to family members to bear his loss.

Inder ji was a very bright, kind & soft-spoken gentleman who, along with his better-half Sukarmaji, was greatly dedicated to the cause of our community & spirituality thru the Rajdhani Mandir. I & my late wife Norma were priviledged to know them for over 35 years ever since some of us founded the Rajdhani Mandir in April 1985. Both of them were highly dedicated & active in religious activities as well as fund-raising for the Temple. He also had a light, jovial side to his ever-smiling personality. We will miss him.
Our deepest condolences to Sukarma ji, Monica, Anjali, Pramila, Shalini & the extended Gupta Family. May Param Kripalu Paramatma bless his soul & accept him in His Param Dham. Hari Om Tat Sat...

We have known Inder Gupta for almost 40 years. Since 1985 we worked together in raising funds, organizing cultural events, walk-a-thons, cooking food and selling, etc. to build Rajdhani Mandir. With few other friends we also went to out of town trips to several places including Atlantic City, NJ, Ocean City, MD…. In the last 20 years or so we walked together every Sunday morning with 4/5 other families and later had brunch at one of friend’s house. Inder was a very soft-spoken, laid back kind of guy. We never saw him upset, angry or in a bad mood except when his wife Sukarma Gupta had health issues which were very hard for him to accept. He enjoyed telling and sharing jokes. Every time we will meet he will ask whether we have heard any new joke. He started a new trend on Friday emails calling it TGIF to share new jokes with a group of friends. It is hard to believe he is no more with us. We are going to miss him a lot. Inder till we meet again….. rest in peace!
