My condolences to Lt Gen Brown"s family. Gen Brown was not only a pioneer in Air Force aviation, but a mentor, leader, and prime example of professionalism. I had the pleasure of serving under Gen Brown when he was commander of the 1 ABW at Andrews AFB in late 1975 and 1976 as a Wing Protocol Specialist.. His example was a key factor in me later pursuing an Air Force Commission.
Thank you, Brown family, for sharing him with us.

Gloria and family, I am so sorry to hear of Gen. Brown's passing. I worked with him at NASM and enjoyed many hours of chatting about life and playing the movie quote game...which I could never quite beat him at! Many blessing to you at this difficult time. I know his memory will always be a blessing.

I just heard of Earl's passing and my wife and I are greatly sadden by the news. I worked for Earl when he became the top cop for the Air Force. Then, I worked directly for him when he was the Commander for 17th Air Force in Germany. That's when a friendship between us and the Browns blossomed. Hilda and Gloria had both started their teaching career in the metropolitan New York area. While he was "in limbo", waiting for Congress to approve his promotion to L/G so he could go to Naples to assume his new position, we had the pleasure of having them over for dinner to sample Italian food from various regions. Earl was an amazingly warm and humble individual in spite of all that he had achieved. He'll be missed by almost all of people he encountered.

My Dad flew F-86D's with General Brown at Zaragoza, Spain in the late '50's. My Mom and Dad have been gone for several years, but I remember growing up how much they liked Earl and Gloria. Many years later, as an Air Force ROTC cadet I was flying "Space-A" back to school from a convention in New Orleans with a colleague, and we got a T-39 from NAS New Orleans to Andrews AFB. The other passenger was then-BG Earl Brown. He recognized my name immediately, and his face lit up.
When we arrived at Andrews, he escorted my friend and me into the terminal, and personally checked on potential rides for us to Wright Patterson Air Force Base. When he had us on that list, he then took us into the VIP lounge and Insisted we wait there for our flight. I was amazed at the time that a general officer would do that for two cadets, and have never forgotten it. I offer my family's sincerest condolences to General Brown's family.

Mrs. Brown and Family...
Please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss. I flew with General Brown out of Udorn RTAFB in 1969 and had occasion to interact with him following that during times when I was living in the DC area.
"Smiling Earl" was a true gentleman and exemplary leader who taught many of us younger officers what command and professional responsibility truly entailed. Like many others, I will remember him with deep admiration and unqualified respect.
Sincerely...
Brian Wages, Col (ret) USAF

Gloria and family;
Then Lt.Col. Brown at Bitburg Air Base played such a significant role in the life of a then very fresh 2nd Lt. He was a generous and insightful man who took me under his wing on the staff of the 53rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, was extremely gracious when my father came to visit the squadron, and even allowed me guest flights in one of the squadron F4 Phantoms after hours of simulator time and preparatory training via squadron-mate Dick Swope. Jack Beasley, Steve Steele,Joe and Carole Rodero and a host of other 36th Tactical Fighter Wing military and civilian associates there still are in touch. We all have warm memories of General Brown and the great times we had while serving the nation there. My life was enriched by him.

Gloria and family,
Gen Earl Brown was a wonderful man. Mary Beth and I have fond memories of ycu and the General from our mutual tour at Bitburg Air Base in Germany. Prominent memories are of day ski trips to a small ski hill near Hahn and a trip to Cervinia in Italy on the back side of the Matterhorn. I was in the 22TFS, but had many friends in the 53TFS including Rick Teague and Dick Swope, both who passed away early a few years back. I have seen Jack and Erika Beasley and Bart Webster from the 53 TFS as well.
We will miss Earl. It was a pleasure to know you both.
