Obituary of Ted Kazuo Yamashita
Ted K. Yamashita, 78, of Gainesville VA, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on June 16, 2020.
Ted was born in Caldwell, Idaho on October 4, 1941, the son of Masao and Rina Yamashita. He graduated from West Point in the class of 1963 and served two tours in Vietnam. While teaching ROTC, Ted earned a masters degree from the University of Illinois. Several State-side tours of duty later, he retired as Colonel from the United States Army in 1988, working an additional 18 years before retiring from his second career in the civil sector. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2012, but continued to enjoy his favorite hobbies and pastimes, which included reading, fishing, and traveling with his wife and friends.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Susan, sons Timothy [wife Kendra], John [wife Layla], daughter Kathleen, and his four grandchildren Corinne, Telluride, Milania, and Everly; as well as his sisters Carol Inouye of Boise, Idaho and Nancy Arnold of Los Angeles, California.
Interment with Military Honors has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 11:00am. Guests are asked to arrive at the Administration Building at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled service time.
