Mary and the Widsten family, I shared Mark's passing with the CHS 1963 class administrator, and he shared it with our class.

Two years after the fact, I've learned that Mark Widsten has passed. Mark and I went to Immanuel Lutheran Church and spent time together in confirmation classes and Luther League as well as a biblical history class for senior high schools after confirmation. We also attended and graduated from St. Paul Central together. While I haven't kept in touch with him, I saw him a time or two over the years and always enjoyed our brief visits. I was also good friends with his sister Diane, and am glad to know they are together again. My memories of Mark is that he was always a really nice, kind person. I'm grateful to have known him. So sorry for the loss his family has experienced in these years since his passing.

Mary and the Widsten family, please accept my condolences for your loss. I met Mark at Mattocks grade school and was a classmate through our graduation from St. Paul Central, class of 1963. During those earlier I played pickup hockey and basketball with Mark and we both earned our Eagle Scout awards at the same time. At the U of MN. Mark, Jerry Sevlie and I attended all of the Gopher Football, basketball (on one memorable occasion the 3 of us snuck in thru the fire escape door and stood behind the last row of seats for the Michigan Gopher duel between Lou Hudson and Cazzie Russell matchup when the fire marshal would not allow anymore student fans) and hockey games. We had some great times.
As I read his obituary, I too spent many winters also skiing in Colorado, Utah, Montana and other western states.
I recall he had moved to Chicago and was working with Proctor and Gamble.
Following college, I lost track of Mark and Jerry.
Mark, may you RIP.
Thoughts and prayers for your loss.

I met Mark during his time at Great Falls Assisted Living. My husband was also a resident. Mark had such a great spirit about him. When I met him he did not converse a great deal but he was always cheerful and laughing. Sometimes, he would join us in the Rehoboth living room for an informal yoghurt party in the mid-afternoon. My husband was a walker, just like Mark. We would pass Mark many times in our walk around the “Great Falls Beltway” aka the inside hallway. There was a young woman in the activities department by the name of Becca who could make Mark laugh until he cried. They would just look at each other and laugh. Becca, my husband, and Mark are now gone from this earth but they left behind many unique and happy memories. Mark added a great deal to our lives at Great Falls and I am sure that everyone misses him. It is good to remember that Mark continued to contribute much to the world even to the smaller world of Great Falls. Good Bless him and his family.
With Sympathy,
Barbara Brant

Mark and I met in 1956/57 at Immanuel Lutheran Church and became friends through Junior/Senior High School, College and beyond. We play pick-up basketball, church basketball and golf together. He was a great friend. He suggested the MBA Program at St. Thomas to me.... and we traded wheels on our Datsun 240/260Z sports cars. I remember that on Saturdays we would play golf at Hiawatha Golf Course during and after College. He was a good friend and our families were close through church. Thank you Mark for having been a GREAT friend and GOOD person and ROLE model. Dave Ekern
