Bob was a very special friend of mine. I first met him about 30 years ago when we were both working in the Mobil Marketing Engineering office in Fairfax Virginia. Since then I grew to know him as a great engineer and a loyal friend. He had a sharp mind, a great sense of humor, and a genuine concern and willingness to help others. He was also dedicated to his family. He would frequently tell me how happy and proud he was that Evan and Grace have grown to be fine young adults. Bob also had a talent for finding new adventures to try out. A memorable one for me was when he talked me into touring downtown Washington DC with him on rented Segways during mid-day traffic (photo attached). It was great.
I will miss him greatly and remember him always.

Description:
I remember my cousin Robert from the time he was a little farm boy in overalls! We we were city slickers, and loved having the chance to experience country life. during annual summer visits. Robert always had a mischievous grin and joy of living that stayed with him throughout life. Like his Dad, Robert, loved to spark deep religious, political and other politically incorrect conversations. He was very knowledgeable,, wise, and curious. I could always see his Mother's eyes in him, and she always called him by name, Robert. His Mom--my Aunt Nita, was a nurse, and Robert had that same genuine caring, servant heart, and concern for others. After graduating college, he had successful early start in his career with Mobile. He and Tammy married and when Grace and Evan came along, Robert took his responsibility seriously. He was like "Mr. Mom", always very hands on and willing to do whatever was needed in caring for the kids, which was somewhat novel during those times. He loved them so much, and it is evident they are truly among his proudest achievements in life. Robert was a loving father who was dedicated to seeing them through the tumultuous teenage years and guiding them as young adults. Robert developed a strong faith during the last year of his life, and he fleshed it out with the love and hope he expressed toward others. Robert came for a visit last year during the winter months in an old car with a lot of miles. I said, "Why aren't you driving something better"? His answer, "It still runs good!" He was humble, practical, genuine, and not at all concerned about impressing others or any kind of one upmanship games. We had a pair of swans who were stranded in the pond during a snowstorm during his visit, and it was close to midnight. We went out with Robert after a few drinks, and attempted to rescue the swans with a rope net enclosure and hip boots. The closer we got,, the further they would swim away making it a nearly impossible task! We were dying laughing at Robert's dry humor and comments about "dumb animals!" when we finally napped them and placed them in Robert's arms while standing in the icy water. He remarked they were "stupid birds!" and "now what do you want me to do with them!" We were cold and wet, but laughed so hard we nearly fell to the ground! We had a great time reminiscing about our early years, trying to answer some of Robert's unending questions about life and God, taking him deeper into his faith. It was evident the Lord was working in him, and he wanted it now! I know everyone calls this special, bigger than life, one of a kind guy Bob. But to me, he will always be my cousin Robert. And he will always be close to my heart. His memory will live on from generation to generation, and we will all miss him so...

I wanted to share this picture of Robert & me, on our grandmothers' laps, from our baby days. Robert has been a lifelong dear friend, always such fun, & a lively co-conspirator in mischief throughout our childhood years. Robert was one of those rare engaging people one meets in life...no matter when you saw him or chatted with him...it was like you just spent time with him yesterday. Such a treasure. So much heart and wit. The very best Cuz a girl could ask for...deeply loved and deeply missed.

Dear Siblings and family of Robert, Being a fellow Hope native, I too knew Robert very well. So many memories of times spent together growing up in our small town. I loved the band he was in, I loved going to and spending time with Carol at the LoPresti Farm.(of course Robert was there!!) I'm sure he was even by "Boyfriend" for a while. So much love, so much fun, so many memories that I am thankful for. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Becky Rosenkrans Hicks

You were my neighbor 4 houses down growing up...met you when we were 6 years old! My favorite memory was the Christmas Eve you picked me up in a snow storm and you did doughnuts all up and down Locust Lake road with me screaming and you laughing the whole time. I know you struggled so with this awful disease and now you are free from the pain and suffering. Fly high and enjoy the peace in heaven. Love ya! Ellie

Met my dear friend the first day of Miss VanHorn's kindergarten class. The rest is history! Many adventures later ...I love you and miss you forever. He was such a giving person and loved his children so much. He was so proud of the adults Grace and Evan are becoming. Will have a shot of scotch in your honor my friend. See you later.
