The following was posted on a baseball forum where Lisa was popular:
If you noticed the world just got darker, it is because we have lost one of our own.
With great sorrow I bring the dreadful news that Lisa Varley Spring has died.
Lisa seemed to know every stat of every player and had extraordinary insight into the game of baseball. Many times she caused me to reconsider an opinion, and many other times pointed out things I missed. I always looked for her posts.
Lisa brought far more to the table than stats and minutia of the game.
Yes, she loved her Nats, and had that great insight into the game, and she also brought a smile and good cheer that was infectious at times.
I’m so glad she got to see the Nats win the World Series. She had picked them to go all the way and when others lost hope, she hung in there like a champ, showing others how to do it.
Lisa Varley Spring was humble, selfless, genuine, quick to laugh, slow to anger and was generous to others. She was a marvelous person who made the world a better place.
She had a positive impact on many people.
Let us extend our condolences to Lisa's family and all who cared about her.
Lisa loved dogs and donations in her memory may be made at ASPCA.org.

Lisa was one of my BEST childhood friends. We were neighbors in the McLean Hamlet and connected at the hips. If we weren’t at her house, we were at mine but ALWAYS together. Saddest day of my childhood was when she and her family moved to Kentucky. We wrote letters, weekly until they moved back to McLean. Oh how I loved Lisa’s spirit and energy. She grew up to be an amazing woman and mother of three Lovely children and friend to so many. I’m sure gonna miss you Lisa Bug!
