Dr. “O” was my family physician for more than 20 years. I still think of him often, particularly his humor, wisdom, and gentle demeanor. He is simply the BEST physician I have ever had. RIP, Dr. “O”.

Dr. Overton is an amazing soul. We would not have the family we have without him. He is a true example of a great physician, man and human being.

Dr Overtone was my lifelong physician and friend. I often visited him well after my appointment, we spoke and shared a lot. He was a confidant, incredibly intelligent, he was a true patriot, I was blessed to know him. Eugene took such good care of myself and my family members, he truly cared about his patients. I have thought of him a lot recently and am a so very sad to learn of his passing, I wish there were more people like the Doc. I will think of him always, god bless. Jeff Pringle

The Doyle family has been a recipient of Dr. O's healings over the last 40+ years, from Fairfax Family Practice in Vienna, to Virginia Family Practice in Fairfax, and finally at Heritage Family Practice, also in Fairfax. "Dr. O," we called him even though the first time I met him, he introduced himself as "Gene Overton." He was a very kind, very knowledgeable, and always very caring. I cannot say enough good about him. He was the best. He still is.
We love you. God has you under his arm, and if He ever gets ill, you will be there to cure him! Otherwise, you will be watching the fishermen at Lake Brittle. Take care, Overton Family, for you have been guided by the best. God Bless.

Our sympathy to all of you in Gene's family. Gene and I grew up with our respective families in the First Baptist Church of Richmond, Virginia. Gene's dad and my dad were on the Board of Deacons together at First Baptist. I, too, graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School but not until 1965. Gene had graduated from high school before I arrived as a sophomore in 1962. He was off to Yale University while I was in high school. The most contact I had with Gene was at Camp Virginia in the summer of 1960 and maybe 1961. Gene was a camp counselor while I was a camper. Our paths crossed again at the Medical School at the University of Virginia where I saw Gene on occasions. Gene finished medical school in 1971, and I graduated in the Class of 1973. I don't recall seeing Gene since those medical school days but always respected and admired him. I know he was a most caring, kind family practitioner, husband, father and grandfather. Gene remained in Virginia for his professional career while I left Virginia for my career in Atlanta, Boston and Minneapolis. I regret that I did not stay connected with Gene over our medical careers and our shared interest in medical work in Tanzania. I know many will miss Gene's love and caring soul. Our deepest sympathy to Gene's family, friends and patients. John Overton, M.D., Minnetonka, Minnesota
