Grandpa Jack, the most selfless and devoted man that I and many others ever knew. My absolute favorite memory of my grandpa was always going to get milkshakes from Wawa after mass in Bethany Beach. There weren’t many things he loved more than milkshakes and going to mass, but one thing he did love more was his family, and we felt that every time we were with him. Thanksgivings won’t be the same without Big Jack to say grace before we feast. I love you grandpa, hope to see you again someday

I can’t think of a better man to be named after. Judging by the other condolences on here, Grandpa Jack was a role model to more than just me.
I knew him as the amazing grandpa who always had time to talk and laugh with my brothers and cousins and I when we went up to Bethany Beach every summer. He would take us to the beach and help us dig holes and build sand castles. He would walk us downtown to get ice cream and walk on the board walk. And he would somehow manage to beat me in chess quite a bit too.
But beyond how I knew him, Grandpa Jack was a truly good man. He served his country and his community and his family every chance that he got. My Grandpa Jack lived life right, and everyone around him knew this. People only ever had good things to say about him, and people wanted him around. The way he would listen when you talked to him and laugh at funny stories and go about life with no complaints was just the Grandpa Jack way. He lived a magnificent and humble life, and has positively impacted so many lives in amazing ways. What a blessing to our family and our world Grandpa Jack was.
I miss you Grandpa.

Jack was my wife’s uncle and I am thankful for the big impact he had on our family. There are so many fun memories with Jack & extended family in Bethany Beach.
In life there are a few people you encounter that you know you want to be around because they will make you better. Jack was a role model for a life well lived. Beyond his many accomplishments, the significance is how he achieved each of them in humble, faithful daily service to others & God. All of us who knew Jack Riester are better & stronger in our faith, family, & community.

Jack Riester was my Scoutmaster of BSA Troop 151.
I witnessed firsthand his patience and guidance to a hyper active troop of young boys.
I also saw him raise a family of fine children, show constant love and devotion to his wife and be a devoted parishioner of Saint a Thomas the Apostle Church.
He set a great example for living a wonderful, full life and my prayers and sympathy go out to Jane and family.
Sincerely,
Barry Sullivan

Jack Riester was a good man who lived a good life. His strong moral character, virtuous behavior, firm handshake, and gentle smile were contagious. Jack was a faithful servant to God, dedicated husband to his wife Jane, and amazing father, pops, grandpa and great grandpa to his beautiful family. He humbly served his country, his community, and those less fortunate.
To everyone who knew him he was the kind of person we all wish we could be. Jack Riester definitely made our world a better place.
A final salute from a grateful son-in-law,
Mark
