Obituary of Wilbur Goode Wingo

Please share a memory of Wilbur to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Wilbur Good Wingo, age 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Ashburn, VA., on Thursday, October 15, 2020.

Wilbur was born on January 27, 1945 in Richmond, VA.

He was married to Clare Marie Washe the love of his life for over 53 years.  They were high school sweethearts and portrayed that love daily until Wilbur passed away.

Wilbur started his Navy career on the USS Galveston in San Diego, California and proudly served for six years.  He was a Vietnam Veteran. He enjoyed the Navy but after Clare and Wilbur started to have children they decided to move east to be closer to family.   He then moved to Gaithersburg, MD and worked with the United States Postal Service for over 35 years where he retired.   He then moved to Ashburn to be closer to their family.

Wilbur was an avid Catholic who was very active in his children’s schools with managing Bingo and events.  He also was an active member of the Knights of Columbus with managing their kitchen and parties.  He loved there Christmas party and would dress up as Santa for mentally challenged children.

Wilbur enjoyed getting together with family & friends.  He would always ask people over for dinner and enjoyed their company.   He really liked the holidays and decorating for them. He loved to play with his grandchildren.  He even let two of them paint his toe nails.

Wilbur loved going on vacation with his family especially to Massanutten and Williamsburg, VA.  There cousins Richard and Lucille would join them and they would have a blast together dunking each other in pool, playing cards, watching deer, and enjoying each other’s company.

Wilbur was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He would bait his daughter’s hooks even when they were adults.  He liked the Washington football team and rooted for them regularly.  He also loved reading the Washington Post daily.

We loved Wilbur’s smile, loving personality, home cooking, sense of humor, and his great stories.

He is survived by his wife Clare; children Marie Michelle Wingo, Maryann Wingo Gleason (Jimmy), Joseph Wilbur Wingo (Maribeth) & James Goode Wingo;  and grandchildren Danny, Kadie, Michelle, Kevin, & Jacob.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lelia and Wilbur Wingo, his brother, Ronnie, many aunts, uncles, cousins, & friends.
