Obituary of Kevin Christopher McElroy

Kevin McElroy, beloved father, son, and brother, died unexpectedly in his home on March 11, 2011. He is survived by his son Ryan McElroy and stepdaughter Ashley Bright; his mother Mary McElroy; his father and stepmother Joe and Joanne McElroy; his siblings Kyle (Dallaire), Mike, Patric, Brian, and Tim, and step-siblings Shawn Portway, Pam Eilts, and Vicki Portway; their spouses; and many nieces and nephews. An Air Force brat, Kevin was born in Denver, Colorado and moved to the Washington DC area as a teenager. He attended Langley High School, Northern Virginia Community College, George Mason University, and Strayer University. He participated in high school sports and continued his interest in sports throughout his life. A sports-o-phile on all levels and in all sports, he was a master of sports trivia. His interest in all things athletic reached its peak as his son Ryan became an active member of his high school football, basketball and track teams. Beyond cheering Ryan on, he loved spending time with his children and his nieces and nephews, who affectionately called him "Uncle Pumpkin." He is also fondly remembered by his coworkers who sought him out as a mentor and friend. He was a charming and fun loving guy, with a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He will be sorely missed.
