Joaquim “Jack” Mendes, beloved husband and father, went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, October 17, 2020, after a long battle with cancer.
Jack, owner of State Construction Corp, was born in Faro, Portugal on December 23, 1944, to Maria Pate Mendes and Antonio Mendes. He immigrated to the United States in 1970 and lived in Long Island, New York, for 10 years before moving to the Northern Virginia area and starting a construction company.
Jack was known for his sense of humor, his love of gardening, and his love for animals. He was also known to make a good wine. He loved socializing and visiting with friends and family.
He leaves behind Carol, his wife of 35 years, their daughter Teresa, his sister-in-law, Kay Morgan, and several cousins.
Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and from 6-8pm on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at the Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA 20170, (703) 437-1764, www.adamsgreen.com. A service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at Adams-Green but due to Covid restrictions, attendance will be by invitation only. The service will be live-streamed and it will be available for 90 days.
